Triple Reed Calls?

Postby fieldt76 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:31 pm

I was just on Hobo's website and noticed a new call they have called the "Tracer". It's a triple reed call and Kent says it's supposed to sound like a young duck. I didn't even know that triple reeds existed. Anyone have any experience with these? It sure sounds good when Kent is operating it, but he can make anything sound good. Check out the video on the Hobo website.

I have had a triple reed Yensen since I was a kid. They have been around a long time.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Not sure why you would want 2 reeds, more less 3.

I never heard about this till I saw hobo with them this year.

Whats the deal with the 3 reeds? I understand the single and double reeds, but 3? Whats the benifit of this :?

It's just a slightly different sound. That's all.

Only one reed vibrating against the tone board makes the "sound" the other one (or two) are just baffles to limit the range and keep from "over blowing" the call. I agree its marketing. I saw the guy from Lohman do a demo once with 4 reeds in the call, and he would pull them out one by one and the range got better each time. It was pretty cool, in a obvious kinda way.
