Need some help or advice for a serious family issue

Postby Bigpoppa » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:38 am

I am in the unfortunate position of starting to look for a permanent care facility for a family member. Nursing home or whatever you want to call it. I have no idea where to even start. It needs to be within 1hour of yazoo city so we can visit when possible. I know this is a little serious for a msducks topic but I value a lot of you fella's advice. Any info will be apreciated.

Indywood in Greenwood is supposed to be a good one. Also there is Golden Age http://goldenageinc.org/ both should be less than an hours drive from Yazoo City.

the Orchard in jackson has independant living an assited living quarters, i have had several reletives there, some lived alone, some needed constant care. I have never set it up though, but they treat them as adults, not like children like some places do

My mother was at St. Catherines, for 4 years, if that is a possibility, it is the best that I know of, not one day passed that I did not know (for certain) she was being taken care of

My Mother was at St. Catherines in Madison for 4 years due to alzheimers. They took care of her from the mid stages of the disease till the end. I can say that not a day passed when I was not certain she was in the right place. They can handle whatever problem presents itself. If I had to do it all over, I'd do the same thing. Absolutely no regrets.

If you are in Yazoo City go by the Martha Coker Green Houses, you will not find a better place in the State.

St Catherine's has a big front end fee in the six figure range. If you move in and die a week later, you lose it. I am very familiar with The Orchard. It's convenient to shopping, restaurants, golf, etc. Its a good time to be looking because all of them are suffering from vacancies. The problem is people want to move in but can't sell their homes so they can move.

Hey, Bigpoppa!

Don't know if you knew my in-laws from Yazoo...Walter and Mildred White. Walter was the county agent for many years.

Anyway, Mildred is in Emeritus at Trace Point in Clinton. The cutthrough off 49 at Kickapoo Rd goes right to it. It is a great place...a little pricey, but it is really good. Emeritus also has a place in Madison, but I don't know it's name.

We have been really pleased with Trace Point. The new library in Clinton is next door and we walk over with Mildred when we are there.

Hope things go well, never a good thing, but it is a blessing to know a loved-one is well cared for. If I can be of help, let me know.

Barring being independently wealthy how does the common man afford this without going to a state run nursing home.
