NEW ORLEANS - Almost one-third of federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico is closing to commercial and recreational fishing because of the oil spill.
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration expanded the area by 5 percent Tuesday. NOAA says as of 6 p.m. EDT Tuesday that nearly 76,000 square miles would be off-limits because of oil spreading from the Deepwater Horizon disaster. That's more than 31 percent of federal Gulf waters.
The irregular shape ban extends from Atchafalaya Bay, La., east to a point about 200 miles west of Naples, Fla., and then bending south.
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

I don't think in-shore fishing has been stopped yet. I don't know any good guide services down there. We go deep sea fishihng with Tommy Browning on the Finest Kind every year and have done so for the last 10 yrs. He called me yesterday and cancelled because he has been contracted by BP to search for oil. So, if you find any good in-shore guys let me know.

Go to panama city for trout and reds. Much better fishing. I put 20 good trout in the boat yeterday.

Great place is the St. Andrews Bay at Panama City - several guides for Speck/Reds in the Bay. Greg Burnett is one of them. Located at Bay Point Marina in PCB. http://www.baypointmarina.net
Greg's site is: www.fishosprey.com
I own a condo there and am thankful we're on the Bay! Only a 20-25 minute drive from the Seagrove/Grayton Beach area.

Son, be sure to check the oil. The gas will take care of itself. George Carter - Circa 1965

Shallow Water Expeditions. They're the best and pretty reasonable. I've fished with Preston Sutter there and I'd highly recommend him. He's a young guy about 27 or so that's a really great angler.
As far as places to eat that won't break the bank...good luck. There are a few, but most are a decent drive from Watercolor. Nick's on Basin Bayou is great. Take 331 to Freeport and then left on highway 20 about 5 miles. It's probably a 20 minute drive from Watercolor. Old Florida Fish House is also good and not AS expensive as Bud and Ally's or Cafe 30A. It's in Santa Rosa and not far from where you're staying. If you're a sushi fan they have the best in town. Harbor Docks for lunch is great as well as the Boat House, but both are in Destin and about 20 minutes from you. Also for lunch, The Tarpon Club which is the open air bar upstairs from Bud and Ally's is reasonable...great sunsets too.
If you want to splurge, Cafe 30A is terrific. Probably one of my favorite places. Bud and Ally's is also really good. For both of those you're looking at $100 per couple if you have drinks.

Preston Sutter lives next door to me here in Point washington and is one of the best Tarpon guides around for sure(not to mention he can tow you in when you spin a hub in a tupelo swamp in late January
)
, he and the Shallow water crew are top notch ,, if you are around 30 A you all need to also stop by "Old Florida Outfitters" they have what you need to get the job done.

Tell him Brad from Scottsboro said hello. He's supposed to come hunt with me this year. I hit him up on Facebook yesterday but thought I might ask you also. A buddy and I are planning on heading down in the next few weeks. Are the reds still on the flats in West Bay? You think we could do any good chunking Top Dawgs?
