Re: Scatters draw
I just walked in the door. Here's the deal. MDWFP was very receptive to some of our ideas. They have agreed to put the draw off for this coming season to see if some of our ideas will cut down on some of the complaints. If not, there will be a push by the dept. to impliment a draw the following season (2011-2012).
The regulation changes that will go into effect for the coming season will be...
1) A NO WAKE ZONE ON ALL WMA WATERS IN THE SCATTERS
2) MORE LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE ON THE WATER AND LANDING
3) YET TO BE DETERMINED BUT REQUEST BY THE PUBLIC, AN EARLIER LAUNCH TIME TO POSSIBLY 3am -vs- 5am TO KEEP A LOG JAM FROM HAPPENING AT THE LANDING AND GIVING HUNTERS MORE TIME TO IDLE TO THEIR HOLE SINCE THERE WILL BE A NO WAKE IN PLACE
For those of you that couldn't attend it is very important for you to email Larry Castle and Sam Polles to thank them for considering the publics wishes even though you couldn't be at the hearing and keeping freelance opportunities open. Please understand, the deptartment did listen and they deserve some thanks from us for doing so. This will probably be an ongoing battle for the 2011-2012 season because there are some Commission members that see a draw as a cure all. But for the short term it was a victory for everyone that wants to keep freelance hunting opportunities on this area.
A special thanks to the 15 folks that came to the hearing. The public was well represented considering it was on a week day at 8:30am.

Good job guys..interesting decision on the no wake zone..dont see how exactly that is gonna work if you still have a boat race out of there at 5 am..As I have probably said 100 times, IMO all they have to do away with is the entrance rule and they wont have any of these problems..3 am as compared to 5 am is a start, but not sure it is enough to fix the problems..glad to hear they were receptive though

Re: Scatters draw
All I can say is they BETTER be boat racing at a No wake speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These "hunters" acting like idiots are about to screw it up for everyone and I for one will not stand for it anymore!!!!!!!!!
We have a chance to police our own and we better dam well do it!!!!! That and the extra law on the water and the boy with the biggest toys doesnt winn anymore. They can go race over on the river if they want to but I hope like hell the big motor gota go fast and be loud reguardless of everyone else guys just go elsewhere.

I guess it's time to invest in one of those high speed 24 volt trolling motors and light 15 foot john boats.

That'd be great as long as you go at an idle speed and not cause a wake. It would sure cut down on the noise of those obnoxiously loud mufflerless surface drives.

LQ,
I totally agree. We need to police ourselves and let anyone breaking the rules know what the alternative will be but in a curtious way. I hope like hell I along with others that have busted their humps on this issue won't have to go back before the commission begging for another chance to keep it from going to a draw......because next time there won't be a second chance.
