What would you go back (or go) to school to do and why? Law School and Med School are a given so leave them out.

Yes-but stay single and treat it like a job (don't party your a## off-well maybe a little). The problem is- most people don't really know what they want to do or be when they grow up, but I bet most know what they DON"T what to do. A little age helps with that. You have probably the best mentor there is ( your granddad). What does he say?

im trying to finish my business degree right now as we speak. i hated school when i was last in it 8 years ago and i hate it worse now. its harder now because ive got a wife and kid but i think it would be better or easier if i was taking classes that i actually enjoyed and not all these dang business courses.

Well Jody as you know Ive been in school for a long time. I always knew what I wanted to do(since age 15) and I worked on it every semester but I let hunting and fishing get in the way and I had to learn a lesson the hard way. Now Im 25, and living down here in Fl for 8-9 months out of the year for the last 3 years away from all friends and family. Its been hard at times b/c not many guys down her have the same intrest as me but deep down I know its been the best decision I have made. Im getting ready to graduate in May with a degree in Turf Mang and certificates in Turf Equipment Technology as well as Pest Control(only needed one extra class for that one and it was a study class for my Florida Pesticide License so why not). Im starting to see now that jobs in the turf industry are a lot harder to come by vs internships but I know somewhere out there there is one with my name on it. There's not a day goes by that I dont miss living in Starkville and wish I could move back however if I would have stayed I dont know if I would have ever gotten to see the places I've seen or the people Ive gotten to meet through the conferences I've been able to go to. I say all this mumbo jombo to say this, pray about it hard and often and you will find the answer to the question your asking yourself. Remeber if God brings you to it he will bring you through it. Dont hesitate to call me if you need to talk to someone.

Thanks! This is actually from a conversation with my Granddad, and he is one of the best mentors in the delta for anyone. I will brag on him! We talked about it last night and got me thinking that I may want to go back to school for another degree. I did well at Ole Miss and graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice because that's what I have always wanted to do. I am still pondering that but just keeping my options open. I am enjoying the spraying gig as I love being on the water but I can get by doing that part time if I find something else. I am really just weighing options now.

Ha hell, that conversation helped alot the other night! It got me really thinking about it and i'm still thinking that may be the route to go but keeping options open.

that's why I chose CJ at first and stuck with it, I enjoyed the classes and actually liked class. I screwed around my first semester but straightened up and came out with a 3.0 gpa because I realized I had to do it! I am also thinking I would do good going back because I really don't have much tying me down now.

that is something I haven't done nearly enough of. I appreciate it buddy, just trying to figure some stuff out. I have been thinking hard about going to Starkghanistan to pursue something in the wildlife field because I love being outside so much. I just wanted to see what else was floating around that maybe I haven't thought about.
Thanks guys!

Re: If you had the chance to do it over..
I had the same option. My Dad just sold his law practice in Indianola after practicing criminal Law there for 45 years. I saw it burn him out over the years. I chose the road of sales and didn't get married till i was 38. I have lived from coast to coast and literally hunted everything from coast to coast...............If i would have hung out my shinkle with him at the age of 25 in Indianola....................i'll be honest but never tell him this..it would have been the biggest mistake of my life...I also asked him could i transfer and get Wildlife Fishery Degree....I remeber my Dad, go get a degree you can make some money at and hire a Wildlife and Fishery guy...I haven't yet!!......................My advise .............Get the Hell out of Greenwood.......Long story short........I ended up marrying a Delta girl of all places after living in 8 states in 19 years and we moved back to to MS 5 years ago, for GOOD.....But My friends in Oxford ask me all the time...now who do you know in Anchorage that takes you on the float hunts.......whos that guy in Phoenix you Elk hunt with.......You get to hunt Oceolas every year at your buddys camp on Fishing Eating Creek, Fl..Hey i was even taught how to bowfish by former Bowfishing World Champions from Ga ( Hood and Campbell)............You do not love the Delta one more ounce than i do...........but your young.............GO..........Go..............Go..................you can always come back and nothing would have changed much......but you'll know alot more..

Something that I didn't want to see but has been on my mind as well! I would like to get out of town for a little while but this is where I want to settle down (which will be no time soon). The main thing holding me back right now are my grandparents, I know they wont be around forever and without them, none of this would be possible. I am thinking about it all though.
Re: If you had the chance to do it over..
I am in school now and will finish in December. I am yet to figure out the advantage to being in school except for getting to duck hunt for a month over christmas break. I am hoping it pays off in the long rum.
Re: If you had the chance to do it over..
I have been asked this by several family member and I have the same standard reply that is true for me. WORK SUCKS. It dosen't matter if you love your job and make a ton or little money doing it. Just the manatony of HAVING to work everyday will get you down. My advice is to chose something that you can stand to do, that makes the most money and sock it away and race towards early retirement.
I have been in manufacuring and health care and health insurance. If I had to do it over again probably Law school as I love to argue and negotiate. Nursing school because of the diversity of what you are able to do with that degree.

Re: If you had the chance to do it over..
My biggest regret is not going into the military when I came out of high school. I was scared to leave the delta. I went to 13th grade at DSU and will be here forever. I wish i would not have been so scared. I should have gone when I had the chance. Take it from me, GO GO GO. You can always come back, but it is very hard to leave once you marry a delta girl and have kids.
There will be a day....

Thats kinda my feeling. Everything sucks right now. Find a job making the most money, taking the least amount of time.
Re: If you had the chance to do it over..
If I had to do it all over again I would go for engineering. I do so much engineering right now and I have a Drafting and Design Technology associates degree from a trade school. I do just about what most engineers do, just don't have the engineer degree on a wall. I've pondered going back at nights, but that would take upwards of twice as long to complete, 8+ years. I've been thinking of getting some sort of buisness degree online, but I'm happy with what I do and the company I work for takes care of their employees. One bummer is we closed down our shop in Rock Springs, WY so I won't be taking anymore WY trips like I was in the past.
I have a strong belief in education and I was a good push for my wife to go back to school to get her teaching certification. Now she's planning out a path to get her masters. And no matter what you learn, nobody can ever take it away from you.

My philosophy as well. Some folks find that perfect career, but this is a safer play, IMO.
