Gas vs Trolling Motor
Gas vs Trolling Motor
I want to get a little motor for my Otter duck boat.. Supposedly holds a 3-4 hourse motor.. But I have been conteplating getting a little 2.5 motor from either Mercury, Honda or Nissan.. But they can get expensive compared to the trolling motor.. What lb trust equals the 2.5 hp gas motor? I just hate the thought of having to tote a trolling motor and a battery, then worry about running out of juice in the battery..
Anyone using the small gas powered ones? How long will they run on a tank of gas?

im sure you could find you a straight shaft weed-eater and rig it to do the same as these. looks as if thats all they have done. get you a small prop and you got yourself a nice rig that would get you in some hard to hunt locations

Re: Gas vs Trolling Motor
I use a trolling motor on mine. I dont want to be pulling on a string, trying to crank as gas motor in that small of a boat. The trolling motor is also very quiet.....
I dont want to run roosting ducks out of the area.
The only negative is the battery. I made an extension, so when my fat butt is in the back of the boat, the battery is in the front. I have run it 3-4 days without ever charging the battery... I wish the front storage compartment was large enough for the battery. That would be a perfect place for it.

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Looking at those pictures, all that is is a weed eater with paint on it, the handle turned around, and a prop on it. You could probably make one for less than 300 dollars.

Might be crazy, but we aren't the crazy ones. The people who buy them (and we know they are some) are the crazy ones.

Just call us entrepreneurs.
Memphis, what about keeping a small solar charger on board?

Re: Gas vs Trolling Motor
wink as you know i am an otter dealer and have fooled around with several setups. now I am considerably heavier than you and a 30 lb trolling motor will do all you need to do. it would aggravating as sheeet to have to fool with an outboard for one not to mention the cost. spend $150 and a get a 40-50 lb thrust and you will be hauling butt.....
