New Ducks?

Postby edwardcc » Mon Dec 10, 2007 2:00 pm

We have plenty of water and food in our main duck hole. Problem is just have not been holding any ducks. However, yesterday afternoon, Dec. 10, I went and scouted and saw hundreds of ducks pouring into the hole between 4 and 5 o'clock. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed a large influx of ducks over the past day or so.

The second thing is could it be that the ducks are using the hole only to roost and we just have not seen the ducks because we have only hunted the hole in the morning. I have not seen anymore than 50 ducks on the water until yesterday.

edit: Mostly mallards, though I saw a good number of grays and teal. Even saw two pintails.

if you saw that many, very good chance it is a roosting spot only or mostly. Have not seen a great number of birds over the weekend- went looking most of the day Saturday. Did not hunt this weekend-

Huge ice storm supposed to hit us in the next several hours, I would think the birds are heading your way as we speak.
At least I hope so for you guys, we are frozen out of 90 plus % of our holes and are down to hunting the rivers.
I'm a Cubs fan and a duck hunter..maybe next year...saying maybe next year in May makes for a long year........

We got up hundreds of birds Sunday morning out of one of our fields. They were using it as a roost site apparently because very few came back. We watched them pour in around 5 pm also the night before. Wish I knew where they went during the day.

Yeah, I have watched the weather up "north" . . . Minnesota been below freezing for four weeks, Northern Illinois and Iowa for about 3, and the freeze line is down to like the middle of Missouri where they are experiencing freezing rain and sleet as we speak. I hope it keeps up.

A lot roosting in our hole Sat and Sun morning. We did good Sat and not so good Sun. This morning 2 guys killed a limit quick with some jewelry (fat greenhead). Mallards, Teal, and Pintails. Definately feeling a push in NW TN.
