I put about as much faith in anything past tomorrows forecast as I do in the farmers almanac. I wouldn't get down by any stretch of the imagination based on that forecast. Heck they have already had ice in several places in Minnesota earlier this year that don't have it that early. Not that that is any indication either, but it has at least laid a foundation for mother nature to build upon!

It's 3 degrees in Grand Forks, ND right now and 27 in Minneapolis. Expect snow in Minn on Wednesday. This snow line needs to head south...it's only mid November...we have some time.

The Clarion Ledger had an "El Nino" story this morning. This story was a little different in that the forecasters were predicting a wetter and cooler Winter. It went on to say that there would be fewer temperature extremes, and more storms. Fewer below freezing temps, and fewer extremely warm days.

I think the most important thing for us related to this story is that the jet stream will be diverted from dipping down into the deep South because of El Nino.

I sure hope it's wrong.

You can write this down and mark it. All the hornet nest in the woods are real low to the ground usually when this happens we have a bad winter. Let's all pray it's right!!!!

Torch, that's one I haven't heard. I love country lore and signs; makes me think of walking around with my Papaw and hearing him make his prognostications. I remember the time he took me to and old black man named Wick Edmonds so he could rub a wart off my hand. Wick rubbed the wart till it bled with a cow bone he picked up in the pasture. He put it right back where he found it and told me that when the blood was gone of the bone, the wart would be gone from my hand. Yep, it was and has never come back. I'll remember the hornets next forecast.

The old black man that removed the wart is what I have heard my grandfather and other older folks call a wart witch. I know of a few that are still alive in Kemper county. I cant say for sure they work but it is one of those old tales that have hung around awhile.

The hornet's nests make sense. Animals as we all know seem to be able to sense what is coming weather wise very well. The species hasnt survived for many hundreds or thousands of years without knowing how to propare for coming hard times.

I personally put faith in these "old country tales". They may not be exactly scientific but if you look at most of them they can be based in scienntific knowledge that has been learned in the recent past.

torch if you're right we better look out. I was workin in the back pasture this afternoon & there was the remains of a hornet nest ON the ground .

Anything this year has to be better than last year. I was hunting ducks in December with no coat on. I thought it sucked. I have been praying for a hell of a year.

A co-worker of mine, while out scouting for a deer hunting spot last weekend, said he saw plenty of ducks up at Panther Swamp last weekend. He didn't comment on the species though, but said there were plenty of them there.

I hunt just north of Panther Swamp and going to look around and move blinds this weekend. They had to leave a good bit of Milo and Beans. My buddy told me that they saw about 500 or so mallards I think it was about 2 weeks ago.
