Will Patterson take off redshirt?

Postby mfalkner » Sun Nov 06, 2016 7:55 pm

Rebel football takes another hard lick; John Youngblood and Chad Kelly both out for the season. If you're Freeze do you burn Patterson's redshirt this late, stay with Pellerin or ? I heard Freeze even considered asking Ryan Buchanan to dress. Probly seems like a bad dream to the UM staff.

Nightmare for Rebs. A season to forget for sure. On the flip side it's a gift for msu after a miracle win sat.

Y'all better hope Freeze burns the redshirt of you ever want to see him play for Mississippi, because when the NCAA sentence comes down early next year, he'll transfer anyway if he knows what's good for him.

For sure. Cause we all know that before this injury, the product on the field in Oxford was far superior to what's in Starkville.

That's what I was wondering Tim. If Patterson is everything he claims to be then the redshirt does not matter. I have heard that Patterson is refusing to burn his redshirt and has been doing that for a while now. I wondered why we had not been seeing the future of Ole Miss football getting some reps. This could be the difference in the Rebs going to a bowl game or not. Just think if they don't go to a bowl they could possibly wind up not going to one for three years if the NCAA puts a bowl ban on them. I also heard that Freeze asked Buchannon to dress out.

Eli Manning redshirted his freshman year to learn the system and mature. Seems to have worked out ok.....

At this point in the season, I'd hate to burn Patterson's year. Pellerin seems to be able to manage the offense - he hasn't been given much chance to show anything other than short yardage plays - and unless the defense stiffens up, no amount of Kelly-style heroics is going to matter much.

Do you want a kid that is possibly the future of Ole Miss football taking off the redshirt behind the sham that is our offensive line? He will be murdered against SEC defenses. Myles Garret will be on him all night. This season has been an absolute nightmare with injuries and tough breaks.... Don't make it worse by getting your future QB killed. If Freeze played him and he got his ACL torn people would be up in arms about what a dumb move it was.

Let Pellerin play he threw the ball well the receivers (and Engram) dropped catch able balls, keep Patterson redshirted. Don't burn a redshirt on a kid for 3 games and the possibility to play in the Liberty Bowl.

Yeah Freeze asked Buchanan, you need a QB because he wants to keep Patterson redshirted and Buchanan had been in the system for 2 years. He knows enough of the playbook to be a suitable backup... if he's stayed in shape.

I hope Buchanan would tell him where he could go. He was done wrong and if I were him, I'd be thinking it's all poetic justice.

How was he done wrong? He wasn't good enough to start...

He was the starter until he wasn't good enough for Hugh & Co. and they outsourced and bussed in another delinquent for the anything to win mentality that just so happened to better than him and he became the number 2 QB.

He wasn't ever really the starter. He was the leader heading into spring ball after Bo Wallace graduated. If you don't feel like your QB is good enough to lead your team to victories, should you just sit by and let nothing happen? Or go out and get one of the most prolific QB's in school history? Do you think Buchanan could have averaged 366 yards per game and 3 TD's over 21 games?

Buchanan was never going to start in Hugh Freeze's offense if there was a better option. He had a weak arm and not alot of mobility.

Do you think Mullen would have sat by this year with Fitzgerald if Chad Kelly was wanting to come into Starkville? Or Les Miles starting Brandon Harris or Etling if Chad Kelly wanted to go to LSU?

I wasn't speaking on coaches, but rather Buchanan. We can agree to disagree but I bet if you were in his shoes, biding your time, and attending practices and it was your turn at the plate after Wallace left, then Freeze goes over to Last Chance U and recruits Kelly(he was recruited, not knocking down the doors wanting to get in at UM...read willing to go anywhere someone would give him a shot) you would be pissed. He went out and picked a talented, yet troubled reject all in the name of winning.
