Anyone else feeling the pinch....
Anyone else feeling the pinch....
at the grocery store?.. Good grief our grocery bill has gotten out of control lately, part of it is due to the new mouth to feed, but at 9 months he can't be eating that much!!!!. In the last year of so, our grocery bill has gone up by about 15 - 20%. My guess is due to inflation.. Anyone else feeling the pinch??

Yeppers, noticed it just last night at Wal Mart....bread is about 50 cents a loaf higher, even though the wheat market sux....and, meats are up about 10%, too, even though cattle prices are pretty steady.
However, pork is still a pretty good deal.
I guess the middle man and those big corporate bonuses are to blame.
And, McD's fried apple pies use to be 2 for a $1.00, now 2 for $1.49.

From living out of the garden and putting up tomatoes, squash, okra, and eating doves, deer, and duck we have not spent more than 50 bucks for food at the grocery store in a while. We splurge on steaks every once in a while, and still buy milk, eggs, and bread but past that we try to live out of the freezer. Plan to buy another one soon as the wife gets a job to put into the shed. Really gonna stock up on deer burger this fall so we dont buy so much ground beef. Independence is a little more work, but sure tastes better going down.

Get some chickens or ducks for eggs. I much prefer duck eggs (Pekin or Kahki Campbell) over chickens eggs. KC Duck will lay anywhere from 320 to 345 days a year which is more than the highest producing chicken (Leghorn).

Yes I've seen it too. What really blows it way-way out, is when we buy all the other stuff other than groceries. Paper towels, deodorant, sandwich bags, charcoal, etc. etc.
If we stick to basics it is not as bad.

Yes. The biggest pinch we feel is on fresh fruit and milk. We eat a lot of fresh fruit, and i drink about 2 gallons of milk a week.

China, Brazil, India, Russia. Rising nations are gulping up resources and increasing demand. We outsourced jobs to them, now they have the money to buy our food. Even our new-found oil is being sold on international markets. Haven't you noticed that fuel prices are higher now than they were before the shale deposits were even tapped? At some point, we are going protect our national interests and stop the unchecked globalism by multinational corporations.

Same here. Feeding a family of 3 with one on the way and we spend about $300 every 2 weeks. Drink about 2 1/2 gallons of milk and eats lots of fruit too, but man it just hurts to go to Walmart nowgrnhed wrote:Yes. The biggest pinch we feel is on fresh fruit and milk. We have quit just throwing away the sale papers lately and trying to get better deals on stuff. It seems to help. No doubt food is a big expense. We just gonna have to be more conservative with spending habits.

That is about where we were with 3.. When we got Aaron in Dec we figured another $100.00 ever two weeks should cover it, but formula alone is about 5 bucks a day not to mention diapers and wipes... Then with the additional costs for the adoption, sitter, insurance, and clothes I have had to cut back on investing just to balance the budget..

Our little one will be here in December, juuuust in time for Christmas (as if that isn't expensive enough). With the In-Laws living with us as well, our food bill stays ex-darn-spensive!cwink wrote:huntersmky wrote:Same here. Feeding a family of 3 with one on the way and we spend about $300 every 2 weeks.
