Didn't See This Coming

Postby Back! » Mon Jul 08, 2013 12:15 pm

Fluffy was squinting in one eye and had 3 small scabs on the underside of her ear flap on Sunday June 2. Kept her eye moist with sterile eye wash and cleaned both ears with moist cotton balls. One ear clean and only little residue in other. Monday went to vet and got a vet I didn't know. Eye stained and medicine given for that. I mentioned ear and vet looks at one with scabs and then smells other ear and says ear infection in both. No light was shined in either ear. I mentioned only one had any residue. Medicine given for both ears. Wednesday Fluffy was not hearing well. She only shook her head once when the medicine was applied so I thought she just had a buildup of liquid in her ears. What was scary was how fast Fluffy lost 60% of her hearing. Thursday I didn't give her the ear medicine and talked to the vet. It is rare but some dogs lose their hearing permanently from ear meds. It has been 5 weeks and Fluffy has gotten most of her hearing back.

Wow! I hope BJ gets the rest of the hearing back, too.
