Help with Christmas present for my 3yo!!!! Please!!!

Postby iron grip » Wed Oct 17, 2012 2:53 pm

Well, we've decided its time to get the boy a puppy... my wife's decided its going to be a beagle, but she wants one from "small" stock that'll remain small................ There's folks out there selling these newfangled "pocket beagles" she's been looking at, and she'll have to spike my drink with crack before I pay that much for a house dog. So in an effort to please the youngun and keep momma happy, I'm asking here first before I go check myself into the funny farm.

anyone, anyone?

Trying to find a pup/litter close to Christmas if possible. Can anybody help a brotha out?

adopt a dog! The three year old will never know the difference and you're wife's friends will praise her for her humanitarian effort. Just avoid the pit bull mix. About seven years from now when the adopted dog is slowing down, then get your son a big lab!

Little devils advocate here, but why not get him a lab instead of the beagle. The lab will not piss or chit any bigger than the beagle at the age of house training and then you can send the lab off to school next summer and have your pet and something worth the effort of all the training. I have had beagles as pets and they are pretty good ones but they chew and do all the other bad stuff associated with an inside dog. All that bad stuff totally depends on the particular dog.

Thanks for the email by the way.

Is she dead set on a small beagle? My folks have had miniature long-haired dachshunds for years. Good looking dogs, very trainable, great personalities. My dad only had bird dogs and labs before they got a dachshund for my little sister years ago. Now the weenie dogs outnumber their old lab

Beagles are hunters and are very hard headed.. That would be the last kind of dog I would get as a pet.JMO

I did see/hear some awesome cat races tho..

I agree with the above statement,

Beagles are running dogs, and barking dogs. i would never own a beagle as a house dog.

i am a Huge fan of Jack Russel Terriers, if this is your first inside dog, you may want to seek out other breeds with less energy.

Jack Russels are Loyal, loving, super smart, and will play for hours on end, by far my favorite small breed.

I had a beagle as a pet, he was a great dog and was a great pet, had no issues with him.

give him a cat. when wife complains tell her there is no difference between puppies and kittens. She will begin to question your ability to reason and cut you slack with future mistakes

Probably gonna catch hell for this, but get a poodle. They're smart as hell, easily trained, good family dogs. They're great indoor dogs because they don't shed, and hypoallergenic so they're a lot less likely to cause allergy problems. AND they'll retreive (they were actually breed for hunting)

If she is dead set on a small house dog, get him a Welsh Corgi. My sister has two and they are great house dogs.

Looking back over your post Ryan, I think most of us are missing the fact that "the wife's decided its going to be a beagle" and there is probably not much going to change that right?
