Field & Stream.
I never have understood some of the hate towards it. It has been around for a century, it is truly an entertaining magazine to get and read, and it covers all the bases of the outdoors. For instance, in the July 2012 issue I made a canoe anchor out of the bottom of an old pair of waders. The "first shot" section has a picture of a rainbow about to take a parachute; it was taken from 2 inches away and the photographer took all day to get the shot. The section tells the story of the picture from the photographers standpoint.
I read an article on Joshua Richmond, an Army staff sergeant who is going to be shooting in the Olympics. It was an intriguing article about how he approaches a station and plans out how he will shoot. There is a heroes of conservation section, which I nominated Jay Woods of Breakaway Outdoors for and he got it, that is always entertaining to read.
An article about the knife, the ax and the saw. On the same page there was a small article about the Ghillie Kettle ( ghilliekettleusa.com)- which I will have one of these days for camping and long days in the duck blind. They look awesome. A short article on shooting traditional bows after that. Their recipe section is always good. I have tried several of them and they always wind up good, if I do my job right. Skinning a catfish, doing a midair mend, night fishing, an article about the Deer Czar of Wisconsin ( James Kroll). You get my point.
It is entertaining with lots of ideas and information from articles like I said above all the way to the most pressing conservation issues of today. I compare it to a Bass Pro Shops. Love it or hate it, it is an entertaining way to kill some time if you just stop and look. Best of all, I find the magazine to be USEFUL to me as an outdoorsman. I can honestly say I go back and pull issues looking for an article with ideas on things like, "rig up your canoe for night fishing." Every issue reminds me that being an outdoorsman is something that you can literally learn and build on for a lifetime. The learning never stops if you don't want it to.

I used to like MS Sportsman untill they got rid of all the field editors and hired Bobby Cleveland to do the whole state.
If it's a hen we know who killed it.
