Jackson Prep QB - Buchanan

Postby Deltamud77 » Mon May 21, 2012 1:52 pm

Les Miles has found himself scrambling yet again to land a viable QB recruit in the 2013 class. Most of the top rated QB recruits across the country have already committed. I noticed on an LSU board that the QB for Jackson Prep, Ryan Buchanan, is starting to get some attention. I don't think LSU has offered him but I did see that Ole Miss, State, Arkansas, Auburn and Florida have offered.

What is the story on him? I live in Jackson and had not heard of him until recently. Is he really an SEC level QB?

He has Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Syracuse, USM, Florida, Oklahoma St, Arkansas, Auburn, N.Carolina, and some others on his list of offers. I too have not heard much about him other than he is a big kid with a lively arm. Seems to be a good kid. Wish him well wherever he lands.

LSU picked up a commitment from a 4star kid out of california this weekend at their camp. Not sure if his verbal will hold up, never get too excited about out of staters especially from across the country

He will be an early enrollee so I like our chances with him fulfulling his promise. His film looks very solid and he appears to be typically Southern Cali QB (very, very well coached). His brother is Boston College's QB so travel should not be a problem for him.

^^^

I hope so, hopefully he will be the guy to come in after mettenberger. All LSU needs is a guy who can stay in the pocket and dump the ball out to the 4 and 5 star skill players that come in year after year, it will be nice to see a pro style QB for a change.

What's a 4 or 5 star skill player? I don't think we get those in Oxford and if we do then we can keep em in school.

Only place he will be winning at on campus is sorority row. The addition of MSU in the final four was just out of courtesy. However, you turn down an offer from Alabama and Florida?

If he had offers from Bama and Florida, I'd imagine he's good enough to play in the SEC, a good QB does wonders for a team...

I'm glad Ole Miss might actually get a QB on campus with ability to play without it being a transfer with issues or a JUCO or something...how long has it been since Ole Miss signed a QB out of High School that had offers to go to other major programs? Robert Lane maybe? Not sure I can think of one...Orgeron and Nutt certainly do much in that arena...

Very glad to have him commit to the Rebs. He had an impressive offer list, particularly an offer from Alabama. If Saban thinks he's good enough to offer, then I have to think he is one we want and need. Saban has been a pretty good judge of talent since he arrived in the SEC. The better QBs in the south are commiting early this year, in order to secure spots and help their teams recruit for their class. This has been the trend to-date and will likely continue through the summer. I honestly don't know much about Ryan Buchanon, other than he plays QB for J Prep, appears to have good size (6'4"+), and reportedly has been impressive in the offseason camps and combines. His stats from last season at JP really don't jump off the page as that impressive, but then again, history has shown that hs stats don't mean everything for QB recruits. It will be interesting to see how he performs this season now that he will be on everyone's radar. The Rebs are in great need of a true stud hs QB recruit that develops in college and upon which future teams can be built around. Whether this kid is the real deal in that regard, who knows. Maybe the football gods will finally smile down upon Ole Miss again and bring us good fortune. We're due.
