AKC test in Flora...

Postby brad77 » Tue Apr 06, 2004 10:52 am

I'm looking for some info on what the AKC JH test requires the handler and the dog to do...I've viewed the rules on the AKC website and it seems to be pretty in line with the UKC started test with the exception of the delivering to hand (I've seen dogs at UKC started test drop the bird 2 or 3 steps away and pass) and excessive encouragement (I've seen folks at a UKC started test hoop and holler, and pass) for the dog to hunt. In the rules it says that "the dog must retrieve to hand". Does mean the dog has to retrieve, come back to the heal and hold the bird until to take it from him? I have a nine month old pup that without a doubt could pass the UKC started test, but I have not had the opportunity to get him to one. This AKC test in flora is doable for me and I just want to know how big the difference is in judging between the two. I've been to quite a few UKC test and I know how they run...

I know this is pennies for some, but you GOTTA start somewhere!!!

Any help or advice would be great. I'm fairly new to this, and I'd really like to take my dog as far as he'll go.....

I am not sure about the rules, but I am interested in running in a test. When is this test in Flora? Is is at Kearney park farms? I have been to one there before but just watched. I have an "old timer" dog (5yrs) and I just think it would be fun to try him in a test.

And a voice came to him, "Rise Peter; kill and eat."

AKC JH test - You can lightly restrain dog with 2 fingers under a flat collar. Dog will have to deliver to hand you can reach down and take it from him when he gets to you. He does not have to sit and hold. But if you drop the bird as you take it from him you better make him pick it up and then take again. You can not say anything once you call for the bird. Once he gets the bird you can talk to him as he comes in. Let the dog hunt the bird do not handle the dog unless you are sure he will handle. The marks are longer and more difficult than UKC, most of the time. The Flora test is a real nice place wish i could be there but i will be at the Double Decker fest in Oxford that weekend. April 24 25

If you are going to run the Hunt Test in Flora, you had better get your entry in by Friday. You can get the information on http://www.Keemaka.com to enter.
