I agree with GulfCoast. The mottled duck is the most elusive duck of all. They fly right at you and make you get down; then right before they are in range they'll turn or vear off then you get up and then another single comes in and you get down again. Even the ones that look interested in your spread are just foolin with your mind. Them bastiges are smart!!! Down here we call em' "Up, down ducks"   ... Most of the ones you'll kill are young (1st year) or an adult bird that screwed up! Rarely the case though...

We had a hole in Webb that blackjacks used to love to buzz. They would come through at about mach 2 with their feathers on fire. We could see them coming 200 yards away and still have trouble hitting them. That was the funnest hole I ever shot.

Killin two in one

shot is fairly difficult when flying. I did that last week on a couple of Gadwalls and then followed it up with a greenwing going about 300 mph right down the break. I just threw up and fired and down he came. I acted like there was no luck involved in any of this and completely impressed my hunting companions for a few minutes anyway.

Well, I am getting pretty good at the Wood Ducks, since the camp I hunt on is just about the only thing out there. You know what they say Practice Makes Perfect, but they can make you feel stupid when they come buzzing thru the timber...

As far as Hunt and Decoy got to be the Gadwall and Mallard. Them Gad's just circle and circle and circle just out of shotgun range (unless your Big Lou)

Greenhead? What Greenheads? I can't ever seem to locate them Greenheads, Shoot I am begining to think they are the sasquatch of the duck world. I hear ever one talking about them and I see pictures, but I aint ever seen one close up yet..

sitting in the timber with your dog at your side and seeing the first flight of greenheads of the morning committing to your decoy spread...PRICELESS!!!!

The hardest duck to kill would be a labrador duck.

Although Greenhead will vouch that we've done it, I'd have to say that the hardest to hit is the Hooded Merganzer, especially if he's flyin' at top speed and only 6" or so off the water in heavy timber. (Gotta admit that we thought they were wood ducks.)
