Only in MS Elephant shot in drive by WTH

Rewards totaling more than $21,000 are being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who shot an elephant belonging to the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus in Tupelo early Tuesday morning.

Around 2 a.m., Carol, a 39-year-old Asian elephant, was shot on the grounds of the BancorpSouth Center. A silver or white Ford Explorer was seen in the immediate area at the time of the shooting.

Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi offered to pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey added $10,000, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has offered $5,000, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) offered another $5,000 and Travis W. Wonder what they shot her with? Assuming she will still be in the show this weekend. I sorta doubt Billy Bob was packing the kind of artillery that would do much damage to an elephant from the highway.

Heard on the radio that seeing as this elephant is an endangered species the offense is on the federal level. This yahoo is gonna get reamed out when they track em down. I bet whomever it is won't fair so well in some federal pen. I don't see them getting a lot of respect for harassing an elephant.

I heard shot from the road and called Slade immediately to see if he had an alibi. They need to post that freaking attack dog you have near the elephant to keep it safe. Didnt realize he got me yesterday as good as he did till I stated to take my shorts off and they were ripped. Thining I may need to put some pepper spray in reach on the bike.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if the culprit was white. I only say that because we don't really have that much gang trouble here, some yes but a lot no. You just dont hear that much about drive by shootings on people in Tupelo much less on an animal. The place where the elephant shooting occurred was on a side street that runs behind Bancorp South Arena. The animals were probably 40-50 yards off the street in the parking lot and behind hurricane fencing. The brotha with his gat is going to have a tough time hitting a target at 40 feet standing still much less from a moving car at 40 yds. I know an elephant is a big target and all but they are not reporting anything else being hit or any other animals being hit by stray bullets like you would think would happen in a brotha drive by. Maybe black helicopter theory here but I'm going with bubba sniped the elephant from the highway exit ramp which is a clear shot and less than 200yds from where the incident occurred. Whatever happened its sad and shameful.
