Underground fence
Underground fence
I have an underground fence put in years ago. There's a cut in the line somewhere and the installer I used years ago appears to be out of business. Closest I've found is Memphis but they charge mileage. Anybody know of an installer that can fix this close to Tupelo?

Re: Underground fence
if you know where the line is, you can fix it if you have a good length of the wire.
When I installed it, I put in about 3in lengths of 1in PVC to make quick access to the wire. 3 or 4 of them per side on my .8 acre yard. I can use the spare wire to "jump" the breaks. That way, I would know which segment the break is in. Then just go back and rerun that segment of wire.

Good idea. My parents has not failed yet. When it does its gonna be a pain to track down. Wish I thought of that PVC deal.teul2 wrote:if you know where the line is, you can fix it if you have a good length of the wire.

If you have any friends that works for the phone company, they have a thing they can hook up to the wire and tell ya to the foot where your break is! We had to do this in our warehouse once and he hooked it up and said 90'! We traced the wire and sure enough that was where it was! Power company may have something but I dont know!
Re: Underground fence
An IT nerd may have one too.
I have a Fluke cat5 tester that will do that. Not sure how I'd use it to do a fence though.

Get an RF transmitter(I think that was the name of it) from radio shack and a little pocket AM/FM pocket radio. You'll tie the RF to the line coming into the power supply. Take the radio and tune it 680AM or something like that, you'll hear the tone pulsing. Hover the radio above the buried fence and start walking.... when the tone stops, there's your break.
I've done it a 100 times on my fence... get some "butter beans" from your telephone repair company... Graybar, Hoopers, etc.
