that is a VERY COOL merganser decoy sam!

love the way the old guys and their ability to depict a species without getting muddled down in being so exact it's basically wooden taxidermy complete with feather splits and anatomical preciseness.

awesome thread.

looks like your basic carry lite paper mache decoy from the 40s or later. they are fairly common. i see them sell anywhere from 5-$20 on ebay plus shipping. so 25 isn't great but not too bad once you consider what you'd spend with shipping and all from an auction site

My dad and I have a few old decoys together:

The ring neck and redhead seem to be some old hunters self carved decoys. Also, the cans seem like they were carved by a hunter making their own dekes ( the cans are not solid blocks, they are made from laminated two by fours with hand carved heads) I would guess the origin to be South LA.
The two greenheads are machined. Not sure of the make, nerver really attempted to find out. Any ideas?

A mix of Victors and some Litesport, Carrylite etc. My uncle gave them to me about 20 yrs ago. Not really in good shape, but kinda cool to have decoys my family used!!

This is a lot of old Victors Made in Italy that I bought for .50 each 20yrs ago from an old coonazz rice farmer ( he actually farmed rice in Hancock County, MS) I actually used these decoys this yr to help fill the spread. Im probably going to retire them all this year. They are beat to death, all shot up, and cool as hell!!

I never really attempted to find value any anything I have, so if yall have any input, particularly on the carved ones let me know.

check out the Atlanta Craigslist sporting section. There is a pair of "antique" decoys on there for 150. I swear they look like old Mason mallard and bluebill decoys. Look "too good to be true" and you know how that one goes. Let me know what you think.
