A First for Mississippi
A First for Mississippi
This weekend SafeFire spent the day on the range with 4 Personal Protection Outside the Home students. According to the NRA, this is the first ever PPOH student course in the state! The PPOH Course is NRA's most advanced civilian concealed carry course. We spent 5 hours on the range, and shot just over 200 rounds of ammunition in 20 different range exercises. Congratulations to the first group of Mississippi Personal Protection Outside the Home Class.

Not sure that that's him, but the guy on the left looks familiar. First name Mike? From Meridian?

The PPOH course is a true concealed carry course. We actually do movement and drawing from a holster instead of just your regular shooting from the line. There are really not many places you can go and get this type of training because most ranges do not let you do drawing from holester. It teaches the technique to draw and move with a firearm, and why you do each step. Below is a list of the exercises we do.
Exercise 1- Presenting without Concealment
Exercise 2- Presenting without Concealment-Abbreviated Commands
Exercise 3- Presenting without Concealment-Multiple Shots
Exercise 4- Presenting with Concealment
Exercise 5 – Standing & Moving to High Barricade
Exercise 6 – Engaging Multiple Targets
Exercise 7 – Shooting Hand Only
Exercise 8 – Two Handed Point Shooting
Exercise 9 – One Handed Point Shooting
Exercise 10: Speed Rocker
Exercise 11: Moving Rearward
Exercise 12: Standing to Kneeling behind Low Barricade
Exercise 13: Standing to Squatting
Exercise 14 – Moving to Low Barricade & Kneeling/Squatting
Exercise 15 – Sitting to Standing
Exercise 16 – Turning 90 Degrees to the Left
Exercise 17 – Turning 90 Degrees to the Right
Exercise 18 – Turning 180 Degrees to the Left
Exercise 19 – Turning 180 Degrees to the Right
Exercise 20 – Extended Range Shooting
Exercise 21 – Low Light Shooting

I just got a new Sig 9mm 2 weeks ago. Took it out and fired it. This was my 7 shot group at 20 feet. I need a course like that though.

How much do these classes cost? And are they all held in the Jackson area?
Re: A First for Mississippi
I believe there are some held at the Starkville Gun Club periodically.

Re: A First for Mississippi
My classes are in the Jackson area. There are instructors all over the state, but there are only 4 in the state that are certified to teach the Concealed Carry class using the NRAs Personal Protection Outside the home, and right now I am the only one out of the 4 offering classes, just because it is so hard to find a range that will let you do these types of range tactics. I do have people coming from all areas of the state though. The next time this class is offered is Sept 7th/8th. As mentioned above, check out my website at www.safefireshooting.com for details and feel free to call me if you have any questionssouthernr wrote:How much do these classes cost? Re: A First for Mississippi
It figures that my first post on DS would be on a SafeFire topic. I am the guy on the left in the picture.
I have taken several classes with Chad now and he is an excellent instructor. All of the classes have been a lot of fun and i have picked up things I either didnt know or didnt realize I was doing wrong until it was talked about. Just from having to listen to me when I come home from my classes has made my wife decide she wants to take at least the basic pistol course.
