implemented for safety. some are game changers in my opinion.
1 - Kickoffs will be moved up to the 35 yard line from the 30, mirroring a
similar change by the NFL in the 2011 season and rescinding a rule change made
in the 2007 season.
2- The kicking team will only have a five yard running head start on kickoffs,
again mirroring the NFL changes in 2011.
3 - Touchbacks will move from the 20 yard line to the 25 yard line only on
kickoffs and free kicks after a safety. Touchbacks on punts rolling into the
end zone or fumbles into the end zone will remain at the 20-yard line.
4 - Players will be forbidden to leap over other players when blocking punts.
5 - Players who lose their helmets during a play (except when caused by fouls
such as grabbing the facemask) will have to leave the field for one play.
6 - Offensive players in the tackle box at the snap who are not in motion are
allowed to block below the waist legally without restriction. All other
players are restricted from blocking below the waist with some exceptions
(i.e. blocking straight-on), modifying a rule change from the 2011 season.

With regard to 3, it would seem that would encourage more kicks within play, thus more kickoff returns, and thus more potential injuries. I am envisioning sky kicks dropping within the 10 yard line. There are no fair catches on a kickoff. All of this would appear to make knockoffs less safe.

Completely agree. The 5 yard running start isn't going to make a lick of difference. Being 5 yards closer (on the 35) is.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:With regard to 3, it would seem that would encourage more kicks within play, thus more kickoff returns, and thus more potential injuries. No way man. Nothing more exciting than seeing a massive smash up of bodies and seeing a helmet fly and wondering if some jackazz is going to come up with a nose ripped halfway off. I think this one is going to cause some controversy.JaMak84 wrote:good, now maybe some of them will figure how to use a chin strap.eSJay wrote: 5 - Players who lose their helmets during a play (except when caused by fouls

Number 4 sucks too. This shows athletic ability. They don't measure verticals for nothing...

I can see it now. One more nit picking thing to throw a flag over. "that wasn't a leap it was a jump" "his body was above the waist but his momentum was clearly below the waist...let's rewind that"

Could the punt protection lay down and form a circle around the punter? In order to get to him the rush would at some point have to jump over a player....FLAG!!!
Re: thoughts about the new NCAA football rule changes......
Rarely do you see a whitey lose his helmet...always the democrats. Gotta get they face on dat big screen mane.
Re: thoughts about the new NCAA football rule changes......
Reason so many folks losing helmets these days is they do not fit....or at the least do not have them strapped tight. Football helmet should have to be removed with both hands pulling out on the helmet. I see a bunch of guys now days pull them off with one hand by the face mask. Anyone ever think of added concussion percentages when a head is bouncing around inside of helmet? Sort of like dummy whammy...get hit then bounce off your own helmet. Head like a marble in a jar

Are we gonna get wet?

I'm thinking it's a big game, 4th and 2 and a key player has to sit out the play because his helmet came off the play before. Long shot? Yeah but hey, I was born and raised an MSU fan- you think about these things. Chit happens...a lot...when you're an MSU fan.
