Crazy booty neighbor....need your input

Ok....one of the great things about living in the city(memphis) is nosy neighbors...aka, like Gladys Kravitz. I get home last night after wife and I were away for 24 hours, Sat AM to Sun AM, and I get this voice mail from my neighbor about animal cruelty...She says it's too hot, concrete is hot on feet, he's a living being that I don't respect...on and on.

I fed my lab before I left and refreshed his 5 gallon water tank.....His kennel is on a 14x6 slab, in the shade, behind my carport. He has doghouse and has spent about half his life(10 yrs) outside. During extreme weather, we do let him stay inside for most of day and at nights.

So am I breaking any laws? Do I need to be concerned about PETA or her filing some kind of claim? She's clearly one of those who think dogs are equal in beings to humans so I can't win that argument. What are your thoughts? I'm really tempted to set her straight but realize that won't accomplish anything.

Everyone is different on the topic im sure. I bring both boxers in when it's hot like it has been during the middle of the day. Basically anytime it's over 100 outside. If we are going to be gone I hook up a fan outside the blows across the porch and deck. Just something to keep them comfortable. I know when they are not when they start digging a hole. That's just me and my dogs.

But I know the city looks at it as they have fresh water and shade to be out of the sun. Thats I'm sure the biggest thing.

you might try contacting your animal control agency and get an opinion from them on what they consider unacceptable. Definitely document who you speak with though!

Over 90 deg. I put a fan out in the middle of the day. Had a friend lose a lab last week to heat in his own back yard, she was an older dog.

I have one of those kid's swimming pools, from Fred's, where I keep my lab. We also put ice in it as often as possible.

If I can survive in 130+ degree heat for 28 months in the Iraqi Desert, a damn dog can survive 100 degrees in the shade for a couple days as long as he has plenty of water.
