I have never heard of beard rot, but if that is what that is, the one I killed last week had it too. he only had about five strands left that were over 4 inches long. I didn't know if that meant he was old or young. I watched him in a field and heard gobble late in the day the day before I killed him, and it was like a whisper, but when he gobbled at about 25 yds out the next morning it was like thunder.
