I wouldn't have. Two reasons why.

1. I would have been too scared to ever think of doing something like that.

2. I would have never had a facebook page or computer to post it up on.

Back to my last post, the problem is a 15 year old with a Facebook page. If parents have the means to give their kids stuff like laptops of their own,
in my opinion a good way to get them to appreciate it, is for them to earn it. If they are going to let a 15 year old have a facebook page, they dang well
better be active on their page and make sure they are not putting crap like that up on it.

Thats what i meant to say I knew better than do something like that but if I would have then the booty kicking would follow! 100% agree with you bout the 15 yr old on facebook. Some adults need to be monitored!

Kids come up with some pretty creative ways to get out of the house. I listen to Howard Stern and the strippers and porn stars tell stories of how they were always grounded as teens, but they still managed to have plenty of sex by lying and sneaking around.

I remember the craziest kids in high school (girls for the most part with this) were the ones with the strictest parents. The parents who were their kid's best friends and would drink and smoke weed with them weren't much better either though.

Simple open communications with kids and keeping an even head makes all the difference. I just hope I can do that when I have kids.

Not to awful long ago I was 15 (about 10 years ago) I was scared to death of my father and respected his word but also loved him and only wanted to please him. No way in hell I would have ever been dumb enough to say something like that about my folks, on facebook or otherwise. She got what she needed.

IMO, it doesn't matter what she did or how bad it was, he, as a father, should have never set out to publicly embarass his daughter over the internet like this. Seriously, it may be funny, but could any of you dads see yourself doing this to your daughter especially at age 15/16? This is one thing very scary about these times we live in today - we are all a split second poor decision or momentary lapse of judgment away from being posted on youtube or going viral.

Agree 100%. Daddy and daughter are way different than daddy/son relationship. Obviously if this guy was up to snuff he wouldn't need to be making the video. Criticize in private;praise in public. I'm not impressed at all. Ymmv

As I see it, daughter post to get attention, daddy post to get more attention. I figure the apple didnt fall far from the tree. He and his ex-wife should look in the mirrow and ask how did we get to this point.

and not saying she would not have caught hell for acting out, but dad's got a few issues himself.

at school, but you never know these days. I probably wouldn't have put anything on her facebook page, because I would have deleted her page completely. My kids won't have a facebook page until they can afford their own computer to start with. My kids won't have a cell phone until they buy it for themselves and can afford to pay their own bill.

Kids are very spoiled these days. Seems like every generation that happens we get more and more undeserving and unappreciative. I had it better off than my parents, they had it better off than theirs, so on and so on. I guess our goal is to give our kids more opportunities than we had, but seems like there are some parents that just don't know how to say enough is enough. I personally see no problem with how he handled it. Tough love is needed and seems like thats what he was doing. He handled it different than I would have, but to each their own and I have no problem with how he did it.
The key word in your statement above is Opportunities...

In no way, in my mind, does this equal stuff

yes lets please give our kids more opportunities than we had, just don't think that equals iPod,Pad, Mac, phone, car, house, etc... Schooling-Check, knowledge-check, common sense-check...

In this father's situation many dads would have been either totally befuddled at how to accurately respond or acted in a fit of rage that at best "one-up'd" the daughter's embarrassing act. Most of us would want to handle it swiftly and with adequate force to not only deter future disrespectful post on fb, but to adjust her attitude towards her chores, oppurtunities, and role in the family. Would also not want to go overboard causing a total disconnect in communication that could lead to future resentment and even more issues. She definitely left her father in a tough situation and he wasn't afforded the benefit of Monday morning quarterbacking like we are. If nothing else, maybe the viral spread of this video could cause some discipline lacking parents to get a little tougher and the quick to anger parents to consider if their intended message is being delivered effectively for their child to truly benefit from.

Sitting here watching my 4 month old daughter play on her activity mat, not even able to roll over yet, it's hard for me to imagine this sort of thing. Guess that is the luxury of ignorance and also removes all credibility from any judgement I may have about his tactics. Props to him for caring enough to check her fb in the first place and coming up with what he thought to be a suitable punishment.
