Shoot, people in Missouri are still waiting on the ducks to show up. There's no snow up north to push the mallards down.redmondandmelvin wrote:Not understanding why so many assume that because they are not killing ducks that the #s are going to "unbelievable' next year. Please explain the logic behind this. I assure you that hunters in Missouri, west TN, IL ect are having an excellent year. How does your success or lack there of equate to more birds next year?
Where are the ducks????????
Re: Where are the ducks????????
Re: Where are the ducks????????
Only possible way I could see it making for more birds next year is if the states up north where the ducks are right now season's are closed. Have no idea what time frame their seasons run but that would be only logical explanation. But I would assume just as many birds as normal are being killed this season overall in the U.S.

Re: Where are the ducks????????
The actual percentage of ducks killed by hunters has a relatively low effect on the overall population. What should be more concerning to next years numbers is how there isn't a bit of snow on the prairies yet. That snow = water which will become habitat for the birds to nest. Yes it is unlikely that they won't get a good bit of snow between now and spring, but no snow would have a much more devastating effect on population than hunters killing them in the south east

Re: Where are the ducks????????
This. The whole reason for variable seasons structures is to adjust the season to where the number of birds killed from hunters will have no impact on the breeding population. It certainly won't hurt, but I'm afraid some of you are going be disappointed if you think low kill numbers will equate to more ducks. It just isn't so.duramax wrote:The actual percentage of ducks killed by hunters has a relatively low effect on the overall population. The birds that migrate to Texas don't go through Illinois. Texas is Central Flyway and Illinois is Mississippi Flyway. My buddies in Kansas that run a guide service have been hammering the ducks and geese all season.Blake Williamson wrote:Caller1 wrote:Hunted with 4 guys from Illinois. maybe a little push?
I see that freeze line moving a little bit farther down in MN. Guess only the last 2 weeks of the season we will get hot.
Dang juveniles on a hunt will be slamming them this year!
