Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
Not the smartest use of his high value considering he won a NC last year. Surely this move had more to do with location than money I'm guessing.

Good for Gus. I enjoyed watching him for a few years, but even though he took a pay cut, I thinks it's a great move for him.
Fresh start for AU football.........

Well let me be the first to say that something smells very fishy about this. What salaries did he reportedly turn down last year?

Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
He turned down Vandy at $2m per year last year if I am not mistaken. Something seems weird about this for sure.
Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
i think its a great move. little pressuer at arky state to succeed, vs SEC type jobs. His spread type offense can be effective immediately since that what freeze had going on there. home state, and contacts.

You UM boys shouldn't be too happy. Either Malzahn had no interest in you, or, worse, your search committee had no interest in him.
Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
Never did see the video of of his wife ranting about different football related matters. Seems they took the video down pretty quick.
Are we gonna get wet?
Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
explain to me how Malzahn trumps Freeze in theory, given their resume and up and coming status...stang67 wrote:You UM boys shouldn't be too happy. Either Malzahn had no interest in you, or, worse, your search committee had no interest in him.
Freeze having 3 years head coaching experience in college and being from Mississippi personally and having 3 years college coaching/recruiting in the state of MS (been a recruiting coordinator in MS at the school he is now coaching for matter of fact). Malzahn won a N.C., but he had Cam Newton and whether it's written on his resume, anybody with a sense of reality can not ignore that proverbial asterisk. Gus Malzahn has less head coaching experience and he's ties to the state of MS, where he woulda been rebuilding a program in the toughest division in college football as a first year head coach, aren't even in the same universe as Freeze.
I don't see how you can imply Malzahn is a much greater hire than Freeze for Ole Miss...in fact, I would say confidently it woulda been a worse hire. It might have made a bigger media splash, but only for people looking at name recognition and the shallow side of it all....like you!

From Gus's perspective, it was a great move. He turned down anstang67 wrote:Well let me be the first to say that something smells very fishy about this. What salaries did he reportedly turn down last year?
offer from Vandy and an interview with Maryland last year. He was in
the running for Kansas and UNC this year. Ultimately, his lack of HC experience
hurt him in both those situations. So why would he take a job
at lowly Arkansas State? And why would do I consider it a great move?
Rather than assuming “something’s fishy”, consider these points:
1. Gus is a legend in the Arkansas High School system. He
won't get the cream of the crop as far as recruiting goes. They will
still go to SEC schools and other BCS conference schools. But he will
get the cream of the crop as far as Sunbelt recruiting goes in the
state of Arkansas, as well as surrounding states.
2. Why go to a cellar BCS school where not even Vince Lombardi or
John Heisman could win? Go to a mid-level school in a non-BCS
conference, DOMINATE, and then get hired at a mid- to upper-level BCS
school. Seriously, can you see him going to Vanderbilt and succeeding
enough to get a job like Auburn or Florida? Hell, if he does really well
next year he could be the next Arkansas coach. Petrino has been
sitting still way too long. He's due for a stealth move in the dark of the night.
3. His stock is falling. Everyone thinks--and arguably so--that he
only won the MNC because he had Cam. Maybe that's true, and maybe
it's not. But if his stock were to keep falling and he didn't make
the jump now, it would have been risky not to jump now.

Which AU Cult Spin Machine website did you copy and paste that from?

Yes, I'm shallow because I think Malzahn is a better coach.camlock wrote:like you!

Re: Au off. Cord to Arkie st
I didn't say YOU were shallow, geez, frickin drama queen...but how bout defending your position that Malzahn was so obviously the better choice for Ole Miss, to the point it's absurd he wasnt' considered (cause he wasn't, he didn't shoot them down, there was no interest...mutually or otherwise). I still say, your theory there is shallow, he's a hot name because of drama in Ark and a special one year player at his current job...while Freeze has quietly built a fairly deserving resume to jump up in the coaching ranks and is a greater fit for that type coaching hire "for Ole Miss"...I gave you several reasons for my stance that Freeze is a better hire...and I think Malzahn woulda been as unsuccessful as Ed Orgeron in Oxford.stang67 wrote:Yes, I'm shallow because I think Malzahn is a better coach.camlock wrote:like you! That's really, REALLY weak.
disclaimer...I'm going between Freeze and Malzahn here, not defending Ole Miss for their coach hiring practice, there are better than either of them Ole Miss coulda pursued.
