In my opinion, UNC Hire > OM Hire...by a longshot.

Fedora is in at UNC.
You know, the USM job is a great opportunity for some of these guys that have not had any head coaching experience (e.g., Kirby Smart). The conference is not too difficult and plenty of good talent to be had. Makes for a great opportunity in 3-4 years if successful there.
Freeze on the other hand, well, he'll have a difficult road ahead.

Who knows if Smart was ready? Ready to take on an 0-8 SEC team with existing troubles? Playing in the toughest division within the toughest overall conference and to be judged thereafter? Probably a no-win situation for him. Better to take a USM or Fresno State type job then come back to the SEC. Or, even Arkansas State. He went to UGA and may end up there one day.

Fedora gone? Uh oh there goes that dynasty.

I still can't figure out the Ferdora hire in the first place. Bower was one of if not the most successful coach in USM history. Being a C-USA team, realisticly they were never going to compete for BCS bowls. I think Bower had 15 winning seasons, played some big name schools that got USM on the national scene and even won a few. Ferdora didn't accomplish anything that Bower hadn't already, yet they run Bower out of town and replace him with a young coach on the rise that never had any intentions of hanging around? Were there problems between Bower and the administration that's been kept behind closed doors?

how they handled bower was a damn shame....

"So when he was mentioned as a candidate at BCS schools such as Baylor, Arkansas and Illinois, Bower politely declined."
"...Bower has stayed home, using a simple explanation for his lengthy stint. "Loyalty," said Bower, the longest-tenured coach in Conference USA. "I played here and went to school here, and that has been the No. 1 factor."
But wouldn't coaching at a big-time BCS program be tempting?
"Oh, I don't know," Bower said. "I think coaching is coaching."

Re: ferdora fergonna......
The money people that built the suites in the South end zone were calling for a change. They wanted a high flying offense that lit up the scoreboard. They viewed Bower and predictable and boring. If you can call winning, having a clean program, and having one of the highest graduation rate in the country "boring". So the went to the AD and said get us somebody who can put a lot of points up or we pull the money. And that's what they did.JaMak84 wrote:I still can't figure out the Ferdora hire in the first place. Bower was one of if not the most successful coach in USM history. I still think it sucks what they did to Bower. You never picked up the paper and read about a player being involved in some crimes or something they shouldn't have been doing. Oh sure, there was the occasional transgression as these kids grew up but Bower handled it.
So here we are. Going through the coach turnover deal every couple of years after a coach comes in and has success. Maybe they can bring Nix back as the head coach. I don't know if he could handled it though. He does have ties that run deep there but I don't think he'd stay if the money was laid out on the table.
