Pumping Pits
Pumping Pits
What type pumps yall using to pump the water out by chance? Ive been looking at buying one but rather see what everyone else is using before I do.
I know a bucket does just as good already. But ive got 3 pits to empty next weekend that are 20 feet long, thats alot of buckets of water and a headache!
Thanks

Re: Pumping Pits
we use a 3.5hp 1 1/2 pump
Re: Pumping Pits
I havent seen a HP that large before. Most of them ive seen at lowes and HD are 1/3, 1/2 or 1 HP. Either utility pumps, sewege pumps or smug or something pumps.

Re: Pumping Pits
I think our way works the best The 4 guys with 5 gallon buckets, only takes a few minutes
Re: Pumping Pits
A bilge pump will work if you're not in a big hurry.
Re: Pumping Pits
I usually use a small bilge and let it run over nite plus alot less hassle than taking the 2 inch pump out there
Wait wait!! Dam* shouldve shot them
Re: Pumping Pits
We use a 2in pump will suck out a pit in just a few min.

Does the HP really matter?

Re: Pumping Pits
We use the 1 I have at work and just had to buy a new 1 I will check tommorow and see what brand it is,bought it at NAPA think it was around $400.
Re: Pumping Pits
We used a bilge pump hooked up to a 12V battery. I don't remember it taking that long. It seems like we just let it run while we were brushing the pit and doing a couple other things. I know it took less than half a day. And it's cheaper and a lot easier to tote around than a bigger pump.

Re: Pumping Pits
We have always used some sort of trash pump. Guessing, it's a 1-1/2 - 2" hose. Has probably a 2-2.5 gas motor on it. No idea the brand or where the got it. Doesn't take long to get it dry. Scraping out the mud usually takes longer.

Re: Pumping Pits
you can get a 2" pump from harbor freight for a little over $200. they have knockoff honda motors on them and work good. i use them all the time at work. they sell a smaller one too.

Re: Pumping Pits
another thing we did was use a solar charger, 12volt battery, and an automatic bilge pump, it worked all year
Re: Pumping Pits
2" Trash pump for first time pumping. Then bilge pump with 12 volt battery to get any small water out during hunting season.
Submersible electric pump works good to but you have to have a generator or power.
