Saying goodbye is never easy.... RIP CHIEF

Postby Don Miller » Sun Oct 30, 2011 5:16 pm

As many of you know my old hunting buddy Chief was diagnosed with melanoma cancer back in July. He went through surgery and chemo but it did not stop it from spreading. This past Thursday I decided it was time and had him put down. For those of you that have dogs and may be going through what I have I can tell you it does help to get another pup. Two weeks before I bought a really nice 5 month old female black lab that I named Sky. Sky will never replace Chief but it does help having another lab there to help fill the void and giving me something to look forward to seeing a young dog grow into a mature hunting companion.
I laid Chief to rest under a 100 year old oak tree down at camp. That's where he was most happy and in his element.

Long may he run. Great pup. May Sky pick up where he left off.

Ugh, there's a pit in my stomach. I'm sorry that they just don't live long enough.

I can't imagine how difficult it was to let go Mark. I know you have many many great memories of Chief that can never be taken away. Cheif was a stud of a dog & a hellava duck hunter. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to hunt with him. I'm guessing that was one of his last hunts.
Hang in there man. Keep Chief's memories close to your heart & look forward to new beginnings with Sky.

Very Sad Mark. Sounds like he is in a great place now under a nice oak near the action.
