Way to go Copiah Creek and Tommy Harp!
Re: Way to go Copiah Creek and Tommy Harp!
We had a blind man run the College Station SRS, when they called me ahead of time to ask if he could run it was a no brainer. Doc you're right on with the Disabilities Act not a place HRC wants to take this. Kudos to Alan and Tommy for their effort.

BrettG,
That gentleman is Jim Witt with two really nice dogs and one of the finest human beings I have had the pleasure to know. He has run the Grand several times and has HRCH and MH titles on both his dogs Maggie and Ike.
Very special man to me and many of us folks in Texas.

I agree 100%. He was great. I couldn't recall his name. His dogs were awesome. Most people from around there knew him from the test that he'd run.jksboxofchocolates wrote:BrettG,

I just want to thank everyone for their kind words and support of Tommy Landers. I have had the honor of judging Tommy and it was one of my best experiences in HRC, better than any title ever earned by any of my dogs. If you have the opportunity to see him participate in a hunt test I strongly urge you to do so, it will be a positive and memorable experience that you will be proud to be a part of. Participating in hunt tests has been good therapy for him and has certinally enhanced the quality of his life. At the North Louisiana fun day when his father said that AKC was going to allow him to run a dog at the Master National Alan quickly stepped forward and said that he had a dog qualified that Tommy could run. We have qualified two more dogs for the Master National and have been working with Tommy. He has done more for us that we will ever be able to do for him. There are some real heroes involved with him they are his parents Bennie and Ann Landers for supporting him and seeing that he has opportunities to grow and have positive experiences. Dale and Denise Johnson that have worked with him for years and led the way for him to handle a dog, they refer to him as their son. John Poirrier who gave Tommy his dog GRHRCH Dash MH, what a gift. Tommy and Dash are quite a team, next year Tommy plans on qualifying him for the Master National in Alabama. Thanks for joining us in supporting and cheering him on.

Let me applaud your efforts as you help to prepare your grand daughter for the trials and tribulations that lay before her. Always encourage her. I wish you both great success in the future with the days of your lives and the HRC. My greatest prayer to the Gods is that she is totally accepted just the way she is--I thought Tommy had been-apparently I was wrong--I still want to cry Never thought he would have been treated as he was--but that is life--we will survive!bustercat64 wrote:GC thanks for putting this out there. I have a grand daughter that I hope one day will be following in Tommy’s footsteps. She has Down syndrome and truly loves dogs and watching and helping me work mine. I am training a dog now that I hope she will be running in a couple of years if capable of doing so. I really hope HRC has not shot their self in the foot on this one. I want to congratulate Allen and Tommy and everyone involved with this for already winning the largest and most special prize at the Master National.
We made it to the Grand and they (HRC) cut his legs right out from under him. Now we begin another chapter in our lives it is called AKC. Tommy will continue to run a dog we still play the game they will know we tried.
I learned years ago that when one door closes another opens usually for the betterment of all.
Looking forward to seeing some of our old friends and making new ones as we begin the journey to qualify Tommy and Dash for the 2012 MN--keep your fingers crossed please. I would also like to take this opportunity to think all the people who have been so supportive of Tommy since the grand. May the Gods bless us all as we march along this year and the many years to come--you witrh your family and I with mine into the future--scary a little isn't it. Buts thats okay Look out world we are coming!!! Ann

Ann, Has HRC said Tommy can never run the Grand or was it just that one Jerk Judge, that caused all the issues. I know which judge it is and believe me, he is rude to everyone that runs. My husband ran the 4 states grand and he was judging our 4th series. Every other judge ask how was he and good luck, this one just said DOG TO THE LINE. Takes all the fun out of it.
Shame on the Grand Hunt Committee for not stepping in. What did it hurt for him to complete that series. Dog might have taken himself out, and all this would not be happening.
I hope to see Tommy out there running HRC and AKC. Hope I get to judge him. I have seen him at Cajun a few times and got a big hand shake from him.
I understand what it is like to have someone handicape since my older brother is mentally handicaped.
I know a bunch of us are behind Tommy and plan on writing letters but did not want to until it was official.
So. Miss is having a HRC hunt on Oct 8 & 9, please bring Tommy over, we will make sure everything is set for him.
I also am trying to qualify my dog for the 2012 Master Nat. Need the tiltle first. Hope to see meet you at one of the AKC hunts.

I am so excited that I am in their flight at the Master Nationals. I look forward to watching Tommy as he and his dog work together as a team. My love is people with Down's syndrome so you can imagine the feeling that overwhelmed me the first time that I read about it on the Master National website. Huge kudos to Alan and Tommy Harpe for the mentoring and help they have given this awesome individual. If I can help in any way, please let me know! I can't wait to watch him qualify for the 2012 Master Nationals in our own backyard. Hopefully, I will get to hand him one of the qualifying ribbons. Good luck and I will see Team Tommy in a couple of weeks!
