what about glyphos in clover?

Postby jwarwick » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:09 am

For a few years now I have been spraying generic roundup in my yard at home in early spring just after weeds appear and just BEFORE my bermuda wakes up.
This does a good job of keeping the weeds in check for the rest of the year.
What I've noticed is- glyphos really does not hurt the patches of white clover in the yard.
Does this mean that I can spray glyphos in my summer deer food plots that I'm growing alyce clover in? It would be a lot cheaper than the grass-selective POAST I'm using now.
Any ideas?

Interesting observation back in 2007 which coincides with what others have seen.

Clover is definitely a weakness of glyphosate. I'm not saying that it won't kill it, but I'm also not saying that it won't injure it either. Timing of app will also play a large factor in clover injury. Read the label of the glyphosate product you want to use for specifics on spraying in specific clovers.

Yea, I knew clover and Roundup had been discussed before on this site. Somewhere there is a lot longer discussion on the topic, maybe another site.

Yea cockandlock25, think we are all agreeing here, not an application you want to make, but one that is an option if weed conditions warrant it.

That's a great way to put it SWAG, I agree. This same topic was brought up just a week or so ago, but I think it is something that is important from a weed control and economic standpoint. There is a fine line in the middle of this issue separating "killing clover" and "acceptable clover injury".

Thanks for waking this thread up... I'd forgotten I asked the question back then.
I'm not even planting summer crop for the deer any more... so many soybeans and corn fields in the area that I decided not to fight the droughts and bugs... let the farmers fatten the deer for me.

Thanks for the input.
