Spirits

Postby greenheadgrimreaper » Wed Aug 03, 2011 9:44 pm

What kinda likker are ya drinkin?

I went through a bottle of Paul Masson Grande Amber Brandy last week. I thought it was a pretty smooth brandy. A little too much heads in it though, I could smell em' and woke up the next morning with a little sting...

I found a cool little place down here in Hammond in downtown called Red White and Brew. They had a decent collection of beer, wine and spirits so I picked up a bottle of Ridgemont Reserve 1792 straight bourbon. I like it. It's smooth. I like my whiskeys fatty with some slow legs, this stuff is a little more thin. Not a bad thing, it is definitely a clean whiskey.

Someone recommend a good liqueur? Something flavored? Gin? I'm always looking.

I know we've had this thread before but oh well, we will have it again I reckon. If ya care to partissipitate..hiccup.

I'll admit, I haven't gotten too much into the honey whiskeys yet. I guess I have the characteristic of having a hard time seeing change. You should see my blind bag.

I like Scotch... The real peaty tasting scotch doesn't appeal to me much. Johnny Walker seems to do the trick when I do drink scotch. I have had others but can't seem to think of them now. But I don't claim to be a connoisseur of scotch.

Now...the Irish...how I love Irish pot still whiskey.

I still love me a good bourbon more than anything. I think I'll get married in Bardstown.

I like Johnny Walker. Had some Blue label (I think it was JW) last year. Had some other stuff at a deer camp that was heavenly but I can't remember what it was. Try you a bottle of that American Honey, it's cut down so I think it's only like 60 or 80 proof so you ain't getting drunk quick on it but as far as a good sippin bourbon its good. I like mine in the freezer and drink it straight no rocks or warm and put it over rocks.

I'll definitely try some, I swear it. It's big check Friday coming up.

Only though... only if you go buy a bottle of Redbreast pure Irsh pot still whiskey and see what you think...

Had some Macallan 21 the other day after a chitty round of golf. It made the round seem much better. Johnny Walker Blue is very good as well. There are many others that are a lot cheaper that are also good. I will post some up if ya'll would like.

Edit: Speyburn is a decent priced flavorful Scotch.

Ardbeg Uigeadail is a good one and it is around 60 bucks. Watch out though, it is 108.4 proof. It will creep up on you in a hurry! Jim Murray loves it. If he likes it, it is definitely very good. He is the man when it comes to scotch. Bowmore 18 is a little more expensive and very good. Its around 90 bucks if I remember correctly.

I used to be a tequila girl but I got too old for the hangover that comes the next day and it tends to make my clothes fall off. Now I prefer Wild Turkey and Sprite.

 indeed! I'm hoping the tendency for wandering clothes is what led to the 'mrs.' part?

I believe in equality for all men and women. With that being said, this thread is useless without pics.

I bought a bottle of Jim Beam Devil's Cut this afternoon. When whiskey makers put up the raw whiskey to age some of it evaporates through the wood. They call it the angel's share. Well Jim Beam decided to take the devil's share, the whiskey trapped in the wood, and extract it. They add water and agitate and sweat the barrels then take the extracted whiskey from the wood and mix it to the 6 year old Beam. I didn't get sucked into the marketing ploy; I did want to try it though. I knew it'd be some hot, spicy stuff but DAMN.

I don't like it. But hey, Beam isn't my "go to" whiskey. It's a mixing whiskey, and at 35$ a 5th I believe I'll take some Heaven Hill if I'm looking for a crappy mixing whiskey to get intoxicated on.

For the shot glass connoisseurs, this is your stuff. Drink it quick, wait for the burn and judging by the congers in it, wait for the hangover as well. It's definitely flavorful, if it was aged after being blended it might mellow out some.

My Puerto Rican connection keeps me supplied up in DonQ rum. When I get up to Canada I bring back some Absynth with worm wood...chase the green fairy. I like a bottle of Zinfendel with most any dinner
