Beginner Caller: Poly vs. Acrylic

Postby kb7722 » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:42 pm

I am starting to learn to call and was wondering if I should spend the money on an acrylic call or just start out with a poly? I hate to put the money into a call and then really suck at calling.

Thanks for the help!

You're looking at $45 versus $135-145.

Just starting out ......... Echo poly single reed or RNT poly single reed with wood barrel/poly insert. Best advice I can give you ..... do not start with a double reed.

Start with a single reed poly or got a tad bit more you can get a good wooden call.

EVERY redneck within 100 miles needs a Haydel's DR-85...under $25 works like a champ. Combo up with any reputable drake whistle and get after em. I do have a soft spot for old wood. Alotta of them plastic thingys have a hollow ring to me...dont know if the dux care

NEVER think you suck at calling, be confident in what your doing...ive heard some real live dux make some of the foulest sounding quacks Ive ever heard. Ive left my calls at home by accident and still called em in with my voice...try it. Cadence, tone and volume will come with experience. Ive seen areas where dux wanted to be screamed at all the way in...Ive been in areas where you put just a hint of volume or aggresion, they're outta there...have fun with it

For the money, I really like the Quackhead calls. Poly call around $25 or so. I can control the volume and pitch pretty good with it.

You can find an Echo poly at BassPro. I expect Van's might have a few as well.

ANY JEFF FOILES CALL IS THE BEST.

I ALSO RECOMMEND THE ED HARDY CALL COZY AND SLIPKNOT'S NEW ALBUM: "DADDY DOESN'T LOVE ME".
