hearing protection?

I would like some input from ya'll on what you are using. I have tried the foam plugs but those are just not functional for me; also tried the "baffled" ear plugs but my ears ring as if I had nothing in them.

I can honestly attribute some of my hearing loss to improper maintenance of Sonic ear valves.

'Foamies' cut the blast but do not promote enjoyable conversations at normal decible levels usually resulting in others' immediate departure from peaceful surroundings.

Since then (and after 20 years of aquiring adequate finances - and an equal duration of exposure to muzzle blasts) I got some E.S.P. Elite digital hearing protection (economy model).

Wish I had been in a position to get'em 20 years ago (@ age 37)

Look into EAR or ESP electronic earplugs. You will have to finagle with the gain a little to have your duck call sound right until you get used to it.

I use these for hunting and work, they are slim enough that they don't interfere with the stock and you can hear all of the conversation in the blind.

E.A.R. chameleon ears.. they are silicone plugs made from molds you send in.. they do have a "baffle" system.. works well for shooting, i got some to wear in the blind.. kinda hard to tell if you sound right with calling, sometimes conversation is muffled if someone is whispering.. i just cant afford digital one yet.

Several of us use those same ones. Can get them at Cabela's, too.

Wish I had done it a long time ago also. Shot my dad's army issue .45 with no ear protection way too much when I was a teen. Left ear is awful.
I use Radians camo hearing enhancer/protection, similiar to Walker's but a good bit cheaper and definately get the job done. Take's a little bit getting use to blowing a call while wearing but you get used to it.

I get the self molding deals at walmart for $15. Midway has them for $12. I usually lose one of them every year or two, so the fact they aren't expensive is nice. They work great and are easy to do yourself, and no trouble at all to pop in and out when using them. But like every other non-electric ear plug or headphones, it's tough to hear people talking or ducks flying. I always use them for dove hunting or most of the time when hunting in a blind with other people. I regretfully admit I don't wear as much as I should, but I figure wearing them sometimes is better than never.

I use ESP plugs. They are costly, but should last forever. You don't need to turn on the sound or use the battery to get the protection. Hearing is close to natural when you use without the battery.

the army fields some yellow/green earplugs they work pretty good and with the yellow side in you can carry on a somewhat normal conversation but it still baffles out gunshots they call them combat earplugs or next time i run across a box i can send you a couple dozen to try

How are the ESP "custom fitted"?

Go to your local ear doctor and he makes a cast of your ear canal. You send them to ESP to use to make your ear plugs. Mine fit so perfect I sometimes forget I am wearing them. They will not pop out on you. You have to gently pull on them to get them out.

I just turned 40 and shoot a lot of rounds. My family says I gotta do something. Expensive but may have to make it work. Can't get your hearing back

Do you have any trouble with direction of sound?? Ive tried the muffs and I can't tell direction well

No problem with direction of sound. Also, for about $125. or so, you can get some custom fit plugs made locally. They do the job, but you can't hear someone talking with them. I wish I had used protection when I was your age.

Found this looking around. Why would someone want to buy someone elses custom ear plugs. They can't be used unless they can be remade.
