Missing TahoeZ71
I watched some lucky fella drive off in my truck last night. That was a weird feeling. Had my wallet, brief case, house keys, camp keys, boat keys, and well just about everything of any importance in it. They disabled the onstar system before they drove off. Anybody got any ideas as to some things that I could do to take some security measures for my family/identity.
WEBFOOT- It was not one minute after you and Patrick walked off. It just started up and drove away.

with auto thief and other crimes out of control.
I personal know the pain of identity thief when they broke into my truck here in Jackson in December 2001 they stole my checkbook along with other items.
What a nightmare that was, see that the bank follows your account closely.
When we left the club, we did not notice but the two vehicles we spoke about.

Dang! Glad I'm in Tupelo. I know that stuff happens up here, but not as much as it does in Jackson. You need to contact Trans Union or Equifax and get a copy of your credit report. Tell them what has happened and you should be able to keep a regular check on whether any new accounts have been opened or not. Contact your credit card companies/bank and tell them your stuff has been stolen and they'll put a stop on the old account and issue you a new number. I would also get my driver's license number changed to another number other than my SSN just for security purposes. Also, when you order new checks at the bank, don't have your SSN printed on your checks. Not all merchants ask for it or require it, so that's just fewer people who MIGHT see it.

I'd use one of these two credit reporting agencies. They're legit. They've been around for awhile and just about every bank uses one or the other, so I'd trust them. Stay away from "freebie" ads on the internet from different companies offering credit checks for free. Stick with someone who you know is secure.
As for the Tahoe....A car alarm or a big Rotweiler that lives in the truck would be the best deterrents I could think of. You could just rag the thing out so no one would want it, but that would sort of defeat the purpose.
If you need any more info on the stuff about SSN or credit reports, I'll be happy to help. By the way, there's a new law going into effect sometime this summer (June or July, I can't remember) that will allow consumers to get one FREE credit report per year. Don't listen to some people who will tell you checking your credit will hurt your score. It's okay to do it a couple of times a year and it'll show up on your credit report that YOU checked it and not the bank, therefore, they will understand.
Hope some of this helps.

Somebody tell me disconnecting OnStar isn't that easy? My free year has just ended and I paid a good bit of money to keep it activated. Left a LSU game early last season and couldn't find my suburban anywhere. After 30 minutes of searching I finally called OnStar and they activated my alarm so I could find it.
