Oaklawn Racing, Hot Springs
We have a group headed up this weekend to watch the ponys run, knock a few back, and see if we can get rich in the process. I have never been. What is the place like?
Thanks,
Scott

So we are not talking about the Kentucky Derby of Arkansas? Figured there would be some serious leg running around.
Re: Oaklawn Racing, Hot Springs

Experience is a freakin' awesome teacher...

Eat at Rod's Pizza while you are in Hot Springs. Get the Godfather. Sorry, can't help you with Oaklawn though.

I thought the exact same thing.donia wrote:i thought this was gonna be about lawn mower racing
I havent been to the horse races but i have been to the Superlift Off-road Park on several occasions. Thats a really cool place. Rock crawling is legit stuff.
I cant recall much about Hot Springs other than almost dying from a Motorcycle nearly clipping about 6 of us crossing the street to the waffle house around 1 am..

Used to go quite a bit and great time always - terrible that the season starts (and ends so early) - usually quite cold. The Arkansas Derby is always 3rd weekend in April - last race prior to KY Derby. Usually several horses in this race make the Derby. Many a great restaurants to choose from. The Arlington hotel is a must see.

I lived in hot springs for about a year. I would love to move back.
so a few tips
I dont know why you nickas are so hung up on rods. Sams Pizza Pub looks like a dive but is great pizza, has a theme song, and a live band on the weekends
Jason steak house out on ammity road off of 7 south is great eating
Fishermans wharf is great eating but i would not show up till after 8 pm
not sure where you are staying but I would suggest a condo in whats refered to as the 7 south area

This is the place that is way overrated to me. Maybe they have just had a couple of off nights the times I've been. Never tried Sam's, but next time I'm up that way I'll be sure to do so.SFDdelta1 wrote:I lived in hot springs for about a year. I would love to move back.

yea i guess you kinda know what to order of the menu at the wharf ...... and I guess I like sitting outside in the spring and summer half drunk ........ maybe that's y I think the food is so good there LOL
what we need to do is get a group together and make a fishing trip to lake Hamilton when they bring the lake level back up. Its on like Flynn with that happens in the coves and fingers.
Sams 401 Burchwood Bay Rd, Hot Springs, AR 71913-7131
(501) 525-0780
if you go in for lunch they have the best meatloaf i have ever had .... just don't have anything planned for the afternoon cause it will be time for a nap.
ohh yea on race days in can take about a extra half hour to navigate downtown
and i would suggest not taking a duck boat ride. they had one go down several years ago drowned almost everyone. they are supposed to have made a bunch of improvements but i ain't getting on one

From the few times I ve been if you want to see some "serious" leg. You better bring it with you. All in all good times. Nothing like $5 beers, over priced food, and betting on stuff you have NO idea about.

Re: Oaklawn Racing, Hot Springs
When you come into town, make sure to come in on the bypass south of the track. Traffic through town is horrible on race days.
We have family that lives there and we have learned all of the back roads to get to their place on Lake Hamilton.
