Wintry weather an deer movement
with the forcast for central and north MS to have a snow and ice event Sunday and Monday, do you think the deer will sense the change in weather and move/feed more on Saturday? I live in Washington County and hunt in Carroll County and the NWS is calling for anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow Sunday and Monday. I'm not sure we will see that much, but may see some snow and ice. Just wondering what yall opinions are?
Re: Wintry weather an deer movement
I am not sure if they will move or not... But it says 23 degrees and rain/ice/snow Sunday morning.. I am not sure I am going to move out of bed in that type of weather yet. I will bet they will move as soon as it stops though..

I've never had that experience. It seems to bring them out of the woodwork in the places I hunt.

+50-11
Snow and real hard freezes lock the deer down big time. Last year when it was like 15-17 degrees nothing moved and if by chance it did, it was during the hottest(figuratively) part of the day, and I was on a jam up piece of property. When it goes into a hard freeze like that and the woods are completely still with hardly any activity(and I'm talking the birds not even making a peep), in my experiences your wasting your time. A little spitting snow is nothing, but a measurable amount and you can hang it up. When the front is moving in, Cwink, watch the barometric pressures right(hours) before the front hits...often times that is when the weather is at its worst, when they start dropping that is when the critters get to moving looking for food and shelter. I have caught many a fish and seen alot of deer right before a storm hit in front of a big front.

Re: Wintry weather an deer movement
The most deer I ever saw in one hunt was one year in high school during thanksgiving break. It was 14 degrees that morning with a hard freeze. I saw more deer that morning by 7:45 than i have ever seen in one hunt. Saw 3 rack bucks, which was amazing for that camp at the time. When i shoot an 8 point that morning there were 9 deer in my sight.

+10 Albanian deer don't have a clue what snow is so they just go apeshat and run around like crazy. Might just be because you can see them better but I doubt it. I say they run like crazy and if it snows I'm going to take a day or 2 off from the ducks and chase the wiley brown bone headed herbivores.

I know I'm from Ohio and I don't know chit about Ms deer hunting, but I do know about hunting in the snow. Our deer will feed heavy right before a snow storm and the day after a snow storm.I have Never had any luck hunting during the storm. If I had to pick a better day to hunt it would be right before the storm. If you have a harvested corn field on your property that is where I'd be.

got 6 or 7 does and yearlings around the house feeding in a little food plot. the only time I've seen them in the past month was Christmas morning after it snowed. The older deer were a little jacked up, but they were moving and feeding.
