Considering the high water, which can handicap us some, I'd rate the season a 4.5 on a 10 scale so far. Been killing a few mallards but it has just not been consistant. Being an optimist, I look for the ducks to start showing up in big numbers by next weekend if not before. My theory is you need to hunt as much as possible cause you sure as hell can't kill ducks at the house. Stay positive. My best hunts so far have been the days after a slow hunt. Hunt hard, hunt often.

So bad Ive given up til youth weekend when hopefully the ducks will get here. Seriously though, it is time to have a serious discussion with our legislators and representatives about our "too early" duck season. The amount of revenue we bring to the state with little response is disheartening. I love DU and Delta Waterfowl but they're not helping bring the numbers as they once were.

Always have a hunting partner with gas money....Money. BTW, after I ran my ride out of gas and switch vehicles did y'all notice us dragging a lit Q-Beam behind the boat. The morning started off bad but we did manage to kill some mallards. Oh, Chief did chit in the boat not once but twice. It's all good though. It wouldn't be duck hunting without a few early morning hickups.

I'm not sure this season even deserves a number rating. Maybe just a word - sucks! That being said, I'll be back out hunting ASAP, which is looking like Saturday this week. It's about to get bad enough for me to go deer hunting. We haven't sunk quite that low yet though.

Considering no one but a WMA had water near us, I thought we would do fine. We pumped a slough full of water and have been waiting every since. We are not hearing any shooting anywhere around us either, even the WMA.

In my optimism, I think that when the freeze locks up Missouri and Arkansas, we are gonna have a lot of action. That said, 0.5 out of 10 on the duck hunting and a 10 out of 10 on hanging out with my two sons, both of whom are in theif early 20's.
Laughing is the sensation of feeling good all over and showing it principally in one spot.
