What would you do

Postby SNEAKER » Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:20 am

I just got winded by a big ole mature (at least 5) 8 pt. He was north of me, but it's so calm that he still knew something was up. He bolted and never looked back. I'm real close to where he's living.

What would you do? Hunt same spot? Or find a differet spot to try to kill him?

I'm starting to get his home narrowed down pretty good. I can kill him if none of the gun hunters catch him crossing a lane first.

I got some pics of him but won't be around my computer until next week. Tried doing it from my phone but can't get the link from photobucket. I can email em to someone if they wanna post em up

Think I figured it out. Got him at north end and south end of a thicket. I saw him west of the thicket.

I went to my stand on the north end of the thicket today. Got situated in it by 2:30. At 3:40 a fellow member drove a ranger within about 500 yards of me (I never put my pin exactly where I am). The ranger backfired when he got to the gate. Within seconds I hear all sorts of crashing heading my way. Saw about 3 or 4 does darting behind me, then my deer hauls booty by me grunting at 30 yards. It was him! I was sp mad I almost went back to camp. He was already on his feet with those does. He wasnt spooked out of his thicket. I was very angry.

I stayed put and at 5:05 he came back looking for his does. He was heading on the exact same trail which would give me a 30 yards broadside shot. Just before he got in my preferred shooting lane, he turned 45 degreees and starting skirting me. I had to go ahead and take the shot. 35 yads quartering away. He stopped behind a tree and I drew back. He stepped out and I let an arrow go. I see a bright red firenock heading his way. It gets about 5 or 10 yards from him and goes "ping" as it hit a pine limb and flies upward and lands 20 yards behind him.

Once again, I'm sick. He runs about 30 yards then starts kinda walking off. 5 minutes later some does come through and kinda head his way. He starts grunting again and fooling with the does.

Another guy in camp saw 12 bucks and all were chasing and grunting. 4 of em were big bodied deer across the river dogging a doe. She jumped in the river and one swam acrosas it with her grunting the whole time. It was on today!

Gonna go back after im tomorrow.

Had him at 30 yards again yesterday afternoon, but it was past "legal shooting hours". Drew back on him for fun. Ba$trd.

May go try him again this afternoon. Maybe he'll come out earlier in this cloudy weather.

Geez, I have joined the "hope Sneaker kills this deer" club. Too many close encounters. Can't wait to see "after" pics. Good luck man.
