Apartments in Jackson?
Apartments in Jackson?
Ok guys after several months of thinking (a tough thing for me) I've decided just to rent for a while when I first move to Jackson. I'll be working at UMC so the closer the better. Any reasonable, safe apartment complexes around there? How about in Ridgeland area? Someone has already suggested one in Flowood...just searching all my options here. Thanks.
Re: Apartments in Jackson?
I'd stay in flowood. Much better.
everything you need is at Dogwood. Except whiskey store.

Stay out of hinds county go rankin or madison I preffer rankin but madison is decent too, just more pricey... But one thing they both have in common lower crime rates!

I lived at Laurel Park Apts my first year in Jackson. They are in Flowood around Dogwood mall. That was 4 years ago but they are still nice and we never had a problem with crime or safety issues.

Be careful looking at apartments around here. Really spend some time casing the place out, because there are alot of complexes around here, especially around County Line Road and Ridgeland area, but also some in Flowood, that appear clean and look good, but once work and school is out, looks like little Mexico or Nigeria. Personally I'd look for a roomate and try to find a rental house.

I would second this one big time!! When I was looking for a place in Jackson I was given this advice and it immediately knocked first 2 apartments off my list.
While I was in lawschool my wife and I lived at the Vieux Carre off I-55 on frontage rd, it is also at the end of Eastover Dr.....It was gated and never once did we see people who didnt belong. At the time we had a great manager who made sure the place stayed secure. We lived there for over 2 years and not once were our cars broken into or out apt. There were several law students, nursing and medical students, as well as divorce-es.
I dont know how it is now, but at the time the rent wasnt bad and we enjoyed it.
The only thing I had stolen while I lived there was a dog crate in the back of my truck, but I dont know if that happened while I was downtown or at the apts....

My girlfriend and her roommates go to UMC and they live in Bridgewater Apartments in Brandon. Very nice apartments located on the south side of the rez. Check them out.

When I went to UMC we lived at the apartments behind the mirrored building across from Jackson Prep......can't think of the name of it.....but that was 10-12 years ago. I had friends that lived down Northtown Drive off of Old Canton which was a nice place. It's gated but can't remember the name of it......both were relatively short drives to UMC. It's going to be a 20-30 minute drive from Ridgeland, Flowood or any of them if you do it around 7:30 am or 5 pm.

Hope you have a flexable budget. You won't find anything worth having for under 6-700 a month...in a 'safer part' of the Metro area. You can forget about Hinds Co... Madison or yankin in Rankin Co.
is about it around here.

mirror lake I think. I didn't think about that, that's a nice place too and pretty cheap.

One mo 'gin on what ddm said. Ridgeland apts are pretty rough unless you get within a half mile or so of the Rez. All in all tho, if you're renting you're probably going to be around minorities regardless of your location.
