New Regs.

Postby emo » Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:23 am

Every year we lose a day here and a spot there.

Panther Swamp now has 2 units.

Unit 1... Mon, Tues, Wed.

Unit 2 .. Fri. Sat. Sun.

Note no Thurs...

At least we can still hunt it... For now....

are these units for draws or they letting one unit rest during certain times of the week but the open unit will be open with no draws?

One unit is resting while the other is a cluster *&&(^

Until next year when the Draw will be implemented. That will be a result of the "overcrowding/ cluster" that will happen this year. Which will be a result of the 2 unit system. Which is a result of over pressure. Which is a result of too much hunting. and on and on and on ...

It may actually work out to be better. Unit 1 (North Unit) hasn't been open to duck hunting in the past and will now be open Mon, Tues, Wed. And it will give the timber that everyone used to pile into hold a few birds. Last year, it didn't hold hardly any birds where it usually does. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

look at the map. Unit 1 looks like a parking lot. This will do nothing more than make it a mad house on Fri, sat and Sun, which will give the federales more of a reason to go to a draw next year.

I see the writing on the wall...

If it stops here it won't be that bad. But it appears Panther is on the same slippery slope that ends with a draw system or closed altogether. If you look back over the last couple of years this has been coming. ATV tire size then No Atv trail, now limited access and days.. Just sayin.

Maybe they won't turn it into a draw. I squirrel hunt with a dog at PS and all I see is alot of trucks from Alabama, everytime I talk to them they don't kill any ducks, don't here many shots either. If they turn it into a draw all of those Alabama guys that are piled in there will be spreading out and crowding the rest of us at other places.

it is more difficult for National Wildlife Refuge's to implement a draw system than it is for the WMA's because the NWR's dont have the technology that the state has as far as an online drawing..although I think the folks running Matthews Brake worked something out with the state for them to do the online drawing for them? maybe, maybe not..but nonetheless, it requires much more work for the feds to implement a draw than it does for the state (at least in MS)

i kinda thought the idea at Panther was a good one although i have never hunted there so i wouldnt be a good judge of that..seems to me that letting a place rest and letting some ducks get comfy in there for a day or 2 would increase success

the NWR i am most familiar with has 1 area that you can hunt 7 days a week till noon and 1 area that you can hunt on tues, thur, sat and sunday till noon..still havent made my mind up if those 3 days of rest during the week help the hunting or not
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am

Ahhh...thanks.

Now that I can see more clearly....y'all are right. Unit 1 sucks. I wouldn't bother with hunting it if I were you.

They've opened up nearly 4,000 acres to hunting that hasn't been hunted ever by the public. It's where I grew up duck hunting when it was all soybeans.

Some of y'all will complain just to hear yourself make noise. Give credit to the FWS and especially those in charge at Panther for making available MORE public hunting ground.

Thank you, Sabrina, for opening up more duck hunting land to the public. I appreciate it if no one else does.
