Migration Question
So yesterday I head out to my High Desert Honey hole in CA, anticipating laying the smack down on some birds. Instead i got skunked, with no birds working and only seeing a handful of big flights, all moving north. Did some asking around and that seems to be the story across the state, a very late migration with cold weather that pushed the birds deep south and now they are moving back up to the North CA/Oregon area. I was wondering if you guys are seeing the same thing in MS? I know when I was home on leave it wasnt until the week after Christmas before birds started getting into the south delta and then you had the big freeze.

Re: Migration Question
I have to say this has been one of the strangest seasons I can ever remember and I've been hunting ducks for 25 years. The early reports said the duck numbers were up tremendously and for the first time there was a large amount of birds that nested south of the Canadian border. The only theory that makes sense to me is that the Central and Mississippi flyways merged and went due south instead of following the normal migration patterns. If anyone else has an explanation I'd love to hear it.

Re: Migration Question
It has been a strange season, not just because i have had to figure out how to hunt ducks in the Sierra Nevada High Desert areas, but also because of the strange migration. Out west it seems like a warm OCT/NOV in British Columbia held the migration up, then now it looks like an early move back north as the weather has been mild. My hunting buddies from TN are reporting the same thing; late migration, then the cold front pushed them all out now they are seeing big Vs traveling north.

All the ducks got a stimulus bailout and didn't need to migrate. Thanks DU and Obama!

There's no such thing as Global Warming - Chuck Norris got cold and turned the sun up a couple of degrees.
