New CCW question

Postby HeKing » Tue Jan 05, 2010 12:07 pm

I'm thinking about getting a new pistol for concealed carry. What do you guys that carry reccomend? I'm not a fan of glock so they are out. I'm trying to decide between a small revolver or a compact pistol. Don't want to go smaller than 9mm either. And it can't break the bank. thanks for the input guys.

Oh and anybody got one they wanna sell?

Well since you are not a fan of Glock the 27 and 23 are out...Look at the Kel Tec 9mm (Pf9 maybe?) or a taurus/rossi 357/38..Never have understood the "cheap" part of protecting ones life but there are some cheaper suggestions.

I'm not looking for a "cheap" gun because I don't value protecting myself. I'm looking for a cheaper gun because I'm in college and dont have a big budget.

Don't overlook used revolvers, they are hard to mess up and when they are messed up it is usually blatantly obvious

Ditto. In either 9mm or .40.

Check out the Ruger LCR (Lightweight Compact Revolver). It's double action (hammerless) and pocket sized. I shot one a couple of weeks ago with .38+P ammo and was very impressed.

I looked at one of those earlier. Unbelievably lightweight. What's the recoil like?

The recoil on the one I shot was brutal. But you can still kill some mofo with it if'n you have to do it.

I looked at one the other day.. I want one that will fit in my boot.. All the 380s were a little to big.. I went with the Kel Tec 32..

I didn't find the recoil that bad. I guess it is all relative though. Compared to shooting .38's out of my .357 it packs a wallop, but compared to my .357 Sig it's a "BEARDED CLAM" cat.

Kahr CW9 or CW40. Nice and thin, and just big enough to get a full grip on it. My CW9 shoots quite well. I shoot it better than my full-sized XD40. I paid $399 for mine when it first came out. They may be a liitle higher now. Never had a hiccup out of it.
