I too, have the Herter's 4 in 1. I bought it in 2000 and have used it exclusively ever since. Most times, I only wear a long sleeve shirt under it and never get cold. It does run a little short, but its a wading jacket and designed to be short to keep it from getting wet while wading. I've hunted in it in rain, sleet, snow; it sheds water just fine; wind is not a problem either. I've never washed mine, so it still sheds water just like new. Kinda stinky though... IMHO, for the money, the Herter's 4 in 1 is the way to go.

I have an old Columbia I've had for 20 years..... I wouldn't take anything that that old coat.

Cause that Barbour is an extra $200 - $300, or at least the ones I looked at were.

Barbour holds up well on pheasant shoots in jolly old England I am told. The one I owned, did not fare well in the mud and slop of Mississippi duck hunting. DU special edition barbour jacket regards.

sorry to hear that. I have also owned both McCallister and Filson (both of which I liked). I lost those in Katrina and bought the barbour. For me it has help up flawlessly through hundreds of duck hunts in south LA and MS, delta hunts, TX, AR, RI, MD, Alberta, Alaska, Tuna trips, boat rides, weddings, board meetings, sunday church, bars, and daily use (I wore it to the office yesterday). Very versatile jacket that doesn't look out of place with a tie in the boardroom, or in a pirouge on a Mudflat. I can't beleive you had any problems. I feel certain, they would stand behind their product (though I've never needed them to). The only time I don't wear it, is if I know for sure it is gonna rain. In that case I always wear a Helly hansen slicker (as I beleive its the only thing that keeps you truly dry in serious precipitation).
