This is the second worst season in 21 years for me. The worst was back in the mid 90's when we had that really warm winter. Could have hunted in a t-shirt 98% of the season.

When I am in arkie its a 10 (so many mallards this year) but during the week when I am home maybe a 1...Places I considered secret spots that were almost a limit for 2 or 3 depending on how many people went may have a bird for 2 to share this year...

I rate it.......'bout normal' .........(of course, I've learned not to expect much).

If it were any better, I would rate it 'horrible'.

I would rate the year we killed 100 gadwalls before Christmas (me and my wife)......'exceptional'.

Do I like it?......doesn't really matter......it still sucks and I can't really do anything about it.

I admit.......that would be a big help. I'm confrident they will be here, soon.......we'll be there to welcome them when they arrive. 'Not going to get all frantic about finding a duck, right now.

Actually, we found a pair of mallards the other day........figured I'd put-out some trail cams and try to see if they're banded or not.....and see if I can establish a pattern.......then wait 'til the hen is in the mood.......and kill the drake when his neck is swollen.

Really, just going to watch them for a while and hope they get some more ducks to use the same area........wait til the wind direction and conditions are right........then set-up a good shoot for the dog.

Welcome to the site - Happy Hunting to you.

i WANNA know where foresaid spot is, we normally have 150-200 KIA by now in MS ans another hundred or so in Arkieland (only hunt there 4-5 imes a year). Real numbers this year MS 15 , 2 Mallards, Arkieland 53, 14 mallards. I think the migration as said before has shifted a lil cause we normally have some ducks by now.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

Not very good so far. I hunted a few times in Ark, very spotty there too. Getting more ducks in though. I saw a good many yesterday. They just had other places they would rather have been.

I'd say a 7 so far. We sputtered like I haven't seen in years after opening weekend due to the hurricane. Then it was spotty until the last week of the first split. Since then it's been quick limits every hunt, then the Cans showed up last week, so things are getting better. Headed down in a few hours for a PM hunt.

It's hard to rate a year, because each one's different. But the base year for me was 1999, I was in 3 different leases, one in Ark. and two in Tallahatchie County. It was the best year ever. Shot ten cases of shells. if that year is a 10 this year is a 5. We have limited out several times when the sun is out. We only killed two yesterday and two the day before, but it was due to the weather.

a big ol' zero

shot at one duck in 7 hunts and it was bootlips sitting on the water at 50+ yards and we only shot at them so that my daughter could try out her Christmas present
