Avery ASD Boomer Stand
Avery ASD Boomer Stand
Anybody have any experience with this product? Pros? Cons? I've had pretty good luck with my ruff stand but looking for something that connects to trees at any water height...is this thing worth a hundred bucks and will it last more than a few hunts?

I kind of like my ruff stand, but it is the only stand I have ever used. It supports my fat booty and deuce pretty good!

I am about to buy a ruff stand. Could you tell my the pros and cons of it before I invest nearly $200. Is there a better stand out there?
Re: Avery ASD Boomer Stand
I haven't had any problems so far.......Some people complain it's not stable and the top is to slick. It's light and easy to carry and I walk in to a lot of the spots. It has worked for me, but GC and CC have used both. I would ask them to comment......

Love the Ruff stand -- use it all the time, so far it is durable and light...negatives is that it takes me forever to set up with all those dangly pins when it's freezing booty cold outside.
Just got the Boomer stand and although I've been hunting the timber I haven't used it yet, but I am planning on keeping it in the boat. Only problem I see with the Boomer stand is its small surface area vs. the Ruff stand. When I hunt I sometimes we stay for several hours and it's nice for your dog to be able to lay down on the ruff stand during lulls rather than remain sitting on the Boomer...much less when i sit down myself.
my 2 cents
***Key to the stability of the ruff stand (especially in timber) is getting the right height on the legs, then attaching the sling used to carry the stand around the nearest tree***

Re: Avery ASD Boomer Stand
I have owned 2 Ruff stands, and used them hard. And a Sportstand, and used it hard. From the Pascagoula marsh, to the Delta, in the LA marsh, and once even in the hallowed state of Arkansas. There is absolutely no comparison between the ricikty, wobbly, slick, pinch-your-fingers-off-in-the-dark, falls over 80% of the time when the dog jumps off Ruff Stand, and the Sportstand. When we used to hunt one dog off a Sportstand, and the other off a Ruff stand, BOTH dogs would try to get on the Sportstand, every time. The Ruff stand is tolerable if you are hunting in over 12" of soft mud, where you can jam it down 24" and it actually be stable. Otherwise, what good is a "stand" with legs that you have to take a ratchet strap in with you to anchor it to a tree.....SUCKAGE. The Sportstand works on hard bottom, soft bottom, you name it, since you can easily step on the cross bar and jam the 4 leg extensions 12" down in the bottom. Very stable, the only thing I would change is the pop rivits to change the length of the legs. Ask Copiah Creek, or anyone who has hunted at my club, they will all tell you the same thing. CC threw his Ruff away....

Re: Avery ASD Boomer Stand
If you have a tree available you can make your own from an old tree stand and mat...

Re: Avery ASD Boomer Stand
Haven't seen the Boomer stand, but I will say I hope its a lot better than the 'walk in' timber stand. I haven't had much trouble with the Ruff stand, but I mostly use it in training, and have to stake it down or wratchet it around a tree to be stable.
Wish I'd have bought the sportstand from the get go.
