Postby Bigpoppa » Tue Aug 11, 2009 5:14 pm

I have not worn a safety harness or anything in the past. I am going to go with a harness or vest this year. What do yall use? Any suggestions and any pointers or stuff to stay away from??????????Tell me why you like what you are using or what you dont like.

Buy the vest that the harness snaps into...take out harness///throw vest away...... too hot in the early season.....get the seat belt connections....try it on in the store, buy one size bigger if possible, you'll need the extra room when it gets colder.

Those vests are great in cooler weather but for Mississippi it will burn you up. Ditto wearing the straps only.

I have a hunters safety system reversible camo/blaze orange. I pretty much only hunt out of lock ons and i wear it if im in the tree. It is really comfortable and is easy to put on. I even wear it as my blaze orange during rifle season, regardless if im in a tree or not. It has a couple of pockets that are handy. And ive never had an issue with getting to hot. On all my lock on sets i have a treestrap in the tree, when i get to the top of the ladder i hook in with a carbiner and am good to go. The vest also has hooks for a linemans belt, which makes hanging stands a hell of a lot easier. I would say my vest is one of the best $100 bills ive ever spent

Ditto, if I'm off the ground I wear mine. Started wearing a harness 2 years ago. I'm much more comfortable up a tree now than I was. I use the tree attachment that came with my Lone Wolf stand and the HSS harness, it doesn't get too hot and it very well could save your life!!

I also use the Hunter Safety Sysytem. It is a great tool, especially combined with the optional line man's belt. Also pick up the 3 pack of treestand quick connect straps ($49.99 for three vs. $21.99 single)(this allows you to leave a carbiner set up at your stand for easy and safe connection).

Also check out the new HSS rope lead connect, giving you more movement and ease of connection..

Combine this set up with a Millenium Loc-on and your ready...

I agree. I have used the HSS for 3 seasons and it is worth every penny. Yes it is hot in October, but it's hot no matter what.

I was thinkin about gettin a HSS, but a guy on another website suggested i look at the trophyline usa models. There the people who make the tree saddles. They have 2 safety harness models, one is the armourlite and the other is extreme. I'm lookin at the armourlite model. The armourlite is pretty much staps but the extreme is a vest. They look pretty solid. Might give em a try.

+1. I hear people complain about the weight also, but the only difference in the HSS and some others is the weight of a vest. That's nothing. I have fallen before. It wasn't fun. I now wear a HSS even in a ladder stand.

So no major downside to the HSS?

Lots of people will be asking this question this year since they made it where you have to wear a full body harness in Wildlife Management areas now

Get the HSS Pro vest. Its made of mesh and is lighter and much cooler than the full vest. Also, their new Pro Series Vest has some new improvements that make it even better.

If for some reason you don't like the HSS series of vest go look at the Muddy Outdoors harness. If I wasn't using the HSS thats the one I would be using.

I used a Lone Wolf safety system, has the belts and attachments, like suspenders, pretty comfy and not hot like a vest type system. Works great.

Whatever decision you make, be sure to follow through....would hate to read about a fellow msducker in the paper falling from a treestand and killing/injuring oneself.

Whatever you do, GET ONE!!! I wear a Seat of the Pants. If it weren't for it, I don't think I'd be alive today, seriously. 3 years ago I took a fall out of a lock on. I was at least 20 ft. up. The harness caught me and I swung around and hit the tree trunk. The only injury I received was a tree step to the ribs which left a nice deep bruise. From that height the result could have been much worse. I have 2 small children I want to see grown so I wear one every trip to the stand.
