Santee Cooper, South Carolina would be my first choice. My second choice would be Guntersville, Alabama. My third choice be the Sipsey River, Alabama. I don't know why so many hunters from SC and Bama waste time road tripping to MS and AR when they have such good hunting in their own states. These are the areas I would focus on for next years lease. There is very little hunting pressure and always an abundance mergansers. Hope you boys that live east of the MS Delta don't get angry with me for letting the cat out of the bag. You can't keep it a secret for ever!

I dont know what Bayou Meto you are looking at but it is just as wet as the last 5 years.
Well, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the AGFC web site is lying:
http://www.agfc.com/hunting/20040107_wr.html
Buckingham Flats and Temple Island have water, but, according to their web site and the area manager, Both Upper and Lower Vallier (which make up the bulk of the Meto) are dry (less than 10% flooded). Even Halowell is reported to be only 65% flooded.
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. What part of the Metro are you looking at?

Best place for ducks? Consistently? What about the Peabody?
The people that are killing ducks this year are just getting lucky. There are no ducks, other than pockets here and there, that people are killing on a consistent basis. I've talked to hunters that hunt the primest of prime hunting spots in Stutgart to others like myself that hunt the red-headed step child of duck-holes, aka~ public land.
If somebody wants to call me on that, please do. I would love to know where people are going to consistently kill ducks without having to pay an arm & leg for it. And even then there's no guarantee.
But if what you're wanting to do is have some action...duck hunting ain't where it's at. It's in goose hunting and NO ONE is doing it. I've been to places throughout the season & seen a handful of ducks, but seen and/or heard thousands of geese - snows, canadians, & whatever other flavors they come in.
After duck season, I'm heading to the delta with some rags, an electronic caller, my dog, mosquito spray & a 12 pack of beer. I'm going somewhere to kill some geese. I say fuggaduck.

I wouldn't waste my time on the Big G (Lake Guntersville, AL).
We have not had 500 ducks all year and what we did have is gone or is sitting on one of the refuges.
