Pete Rose
We never talk about baseball (maybe since it's winter). Saw that interview on abc tonight. I think he should be let back in. Yea i know he gambled and i know he lied about it, but he still has more hits than anyone else in baseball. If they can let folks like Daryl Strawberry (who did enough coke to kill a large horse) remain in baseball then it is time for Pete to be in the hall of fame. I just wondered what some of you thought.

Some where, we have to make a stand and ask these guys who play a children's game and make millions of dollars to be adults and do right things. I am tired of spoiled professional athletes doing stupid things, then whining when they are called to task and asked to be accountable for their actions. If I did something similar in the education profession that violated the ethics code, I would lose my certification and would never work in the profession again. Explain to me why Pete Rose should ask for an exception to the rule...because he was very good?! Too damn bad, Pete! Should have thought before you did stupid things! When millions of young people look up to you and idolize you, it ain't a game! Be worthy or suffer the consequences. I don't believe we as a culture can afford to allow people to escape appropriate consequences because they are popular of in a certain profession...kinda reminds me of a certain President and a definition of sex as to whether he did anything wrong! Sheesh.
Dang, I'm in a bad mood today!

Babe Ruth wasn't a saint. Leave Pete alone. Let Pete back in the game. Remember the word "game" which is entertainment. So what if they are making millions, it's not because of me. I don't buy the shoes, the clothes, the video games, or go to the games and pay for tickets. For those that do, what these people have become (or are) is the fault of the paying crowds. Think Labron James is going to find a cure for cancer? I doubt it but he's paid like he is. Let Pete in I say, it's just more for the price of admission. Us bystanders would like a new issue to have to wade through when we turn on the TV. Rose is now a channel changer if you get my drift. Let him in and let it go!

I say let him in the Hall and move on. The records he has, he has them as a player. He earned those and everything else is irrelevant. Now, what he did is wrong, but somebody got those hits. Baseball has let Strawberry and Gooden come back after drug problems a million times and half of the players are on Roids today anyway. All the records that are being broken today are flawed. Let the ones who EARNED them be admitted, because when it's all said and done, Peter Rose's records are more honest than Barry Bonds. FYI, Barry is being investigated for doping with THG and Sammy (Corky) is next. Baseball has turned a blind eye to this and I don't see any difference between the two incidents. One is as wrong as the other.

Quack Killls!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that folks are "forgiven" every day because they are good at what they do. I dont' agree that because a bunch of other folks do stupid stuff and get away with it, we should let others do the same. My point is...kick all of them out! I don't care how good you are at something, if you can't stay between the lines, don't play the game. Tell me one major game that doesn't have and out-of-bounds. Do we let football players play the game after they go out of bounds? Just saying that the more excuses we make, the more times we turn our heads and pretend it didn't happen, the more we make exceptions for athletes, the worse it will get. Sports or law enforcement...society will follow expectations. Let expectations go down...well, you know how it's going. I am just ready for higher expectations on all of us.
How many of you have complained because the behaviors within the our realm of duck hunting have gone down. Well, let's just make a few more excuses for why they are that way rather than asking that the behaviors change. After all, it's just a sport!

If Pete had come clean about his gambling 14 years ago, I would have beeen all for letting him into the hall of fame. The man lied about it for 14 years, now he says that he did bet on baseball, did bet on his team, but never bet against his team(yeah right). How do you know if he's telling the truth now?? You don't. He is a liar and has no place in baseball, who would buy a ticket to a game if you knew the players and or managers were betting on the games?

Let him in the hall of fame, his play on the field deserves that.
Other than the hall he should not be allowed back in baseball. For those that say what about to crackheads that get second, third, or even fourth chances............Well I say don't let them back in either. Two strikes and your out as far as I'm concerned. These guys are so fortunate and if they screw up and ruin what so many only wished they had, then they should suffer the consequences.
Rose bet on the game and then lied about it for 14 years. To me thats 2 strikes. He bet, he lied, he's out of baseball. His career as a player should be noted in the hall right next to why he's banished from the game other than the fact that he's in the hall of fame!!!

The country let a liar remain the President. Baseball and it's ethics are more important?

Pete Rose deserves to be let back into the game that he dominated in his day. His stats clearly speak for themselves and the Hall of Fame needs his plaque in their for the game of baseball. There are alot of worse things that he could of done but all he did was make a few wagers, sure it taints the game and the way he probably managed but is it really necessary to ban one of the best baseball players ever. I THINK NOT
His place in the Hall of Fame would be for his performance as a player. He didn't bet on the game as a player, therefore they should let him in the Hall of Fame for his play on the field. He should not be let back into the game as a manager because he bet on the game, and his own team, as a manager.

I say let him in the Hall of Fame, but, don't let him manage. I think he has a big gambling problem that he has not addressed and think he'd probably gamble on games while managing.
I think the bigger issue is that there is nothing consistant. Things are now looked at in shades of gray and not black and white. Drug use versus gambling for instance. If one breaks the rules, that's it. You are busted. We are all human and fall short. Give them a chance to clean up their act and if they dont', out the door they go.
