I payed for my first shotgun back in June and it was 870 Express Super Magnum in Advantage Wetlands put about 1,000-1,500 rounds through it between shooting skeet, dove's, tweety birds, snakes, and ducks and payed about $550 for it and besides the $700 I spent on my Ruger .270 best money I ever spent. Thought about getting a Winchester SX2 Greenhead but my "turd-cutter" of a cousin bought one before I did just to piss me off and I'm glad he did because that thing is ugly for a shot gun, now I'll take a greenhead every day of the week, and the thing is I've shot that SX2 more during duck season last year than he did during the past two dove seasons. He has asked me if I'd buy it from him and I told him I shoot the best shotgun ever made and that will ever be made. One of my buddies shoots a MOBU SX2 and his brother shoots a LH SBE and they have both dropped those auto's in the break this season and that ended the day for them. I haven't dropped mine in but I have dropped my dads in and alls I did was pick it up and shot the next bird that flew by. So all yall that shoots those high dolar autos yall should really go get an ole faithfull and you will never have a problem out of it.

Win. SX2 for ducks, the only other option I'd consider is a Beretta Extrema...the others just don't work as well with the roman candle 3.5's. If your gonna buy an SBE buy 2 so you'll have a spare gun for parts. I sure do notice that after the initial hype of the benelli's I don't see many hardcore duck hunters shooting them, seems I see Winchester, Browning, Remington, and Beretta among auto's. And quite a few 870's (until someone shoots them with 3.5" shells, then by the end of the day they are looking real hard at my auto.

I love my browning a-5, but it only shoots 2 3/4, got into a situation where I had to borrow shells, 3 inch all they had. did not work well in my gun. So I bought a winchester x2 haven't gotten used to it yet. It is a lot different than the a-5.

Gordon for starters I would never eye some elses gun essecially an auto over my 870, and yes I do shoot a lot of 3 1/2's through it and when I'm hunting I've got better things to notice than the recoil that my shotgun has when shooting those big thangs so don't get started on how the auto has less recoil, my opion and I don't think any less of you as a fellow hunter but autos are for the guys who can't take the recoil of the 3 1/2s out of a pump gun. Think about pumps usually never freeze up and will not jam, now name me an auto that can boast that.

GFB, glad you're happy with the Remington, I had one for years (a wingmaster 870), and though it was great until I switched to an auto, believe me there will be a time when recoil will wear on you, it catches up with everyone sooner or later. And remember anything mechanical will break sooner or later.

After a second look at the poll I noticed a lot of Benelli shooter's, I'm wondering how many are shooting the 3" gun vs. the 3.5's? The only 3.5's I've seen in my blind (3 which is admitedly not a good sample), have been pretty unreliable. The 4 3" gun's haven't missed a lick, however.

I agree with several of the other post. Where are the Brownings? I have shot a 3" A-5 for about 15 years and haven't seen anything that can touch it yet for reliability/longevity. And yep, I do own several other good auto-loaders and pumps including a couple of Beneli's, a nice Beretta and several 870's. Very few actual improvements have ever been made on anything that John Browning put his name on and that don't include the "gold" model which probably has the most complicated and worst trigger ever devised for a shotgun.

I still shoot my Belgium made A-5 Light Twelve 2 3/4 inch. I still out shoot most of the people in my group that shoot 3 in. or 3 1/2 in. (with the exception of opening weekend so don't you chime in chuckle12).

I just make sure I make my shots count or bring a lot-o-shells.

Duck head your right every thing John Browning thought up gun wise was truely a reliable working piece of art. Then again he didn't come up with the gold. Just look at the browning A-5/Remington Model 11 both of them great guns (now if anyone still duck hunts with a model 11 I think its about time to retire it because its way to valueable) there one in the same just one was produced a lot longer and the remington is before browning produce guns not thought them up. I'm not saying that all autos are bad just the ones I've used are the ones I don't care for and that list is an 1100, 11-87, SBE, Gold, and Extrema. Now I love the SX2 and an old Belgian made A-5 probally the best 2 autos ever made.

I had a super x2 (hunted with it for two years and NEVER had a problem) and got ride of it after I got a SBE. Big mistake!! I traded the SBE for a Browning Citori 3 1/2 and have no regrets about it. I did not like the way the SBE felt or loaded. As soon as I can swing it I will be getting another super x2.
